The misses was a pill head for 15 years. She could eat a $100 worth of pills daily. She started using kratom and was able to kick the pills. She has had no problem  keeping her kratom use in check. She still only takes 3 gram doses once or twice a day and it's not a big deal if she runs out. No mental obsession no extreme WD. Night and day to her pharmaceutical use. Most of the kratom users I I've known are like this. Now there have been a very small handful of people I've known over the years that have gotten obsessed and addicted to to it like it was hard drugs. However much kratom they had they would eat it all by the end of the day. Those people would be addicted to cheeseburgers if there wasn't mind altering substances though. They couldn't take ANYTHING in moderation

Kratom does have built in properties that make it harder to abuse, like the fact that there are
Only 24 hours in a day to fill capsules.

I am a fairly heavy daily user of kratom (4g 4 times a day) and this export ban isn't particularly encouraging, but I'm not too worried because I don't have enough money to stockpile a lifetime supply anyway, so there's nothing I can do except have a series of plan Bs if the kratom supply should dry up.


Everyone here who says kratom is weak (like 10mg of codeine!?) obviously hasn't had proper kratom, or is somehow highly tolerant to it.
In another thread I recently said I took 500mg of codeine and it was nowhere near as strong as 4g of kratom.
(But that could be due to lacking the required enzymes for codeine...)

Anyway.

I just feel like having a general rant about kratom while this thread is here.

I am an opiate boy so I use kratom primarily for the opioid effects, although it has various other bells and whistles too.

As far as I know, kratom contains:
Opioid partial agonists
Opioid full agonists
Opioid antagonists
Serotonin reuptake inhibitors
Dopamine reuptake inhibitors
Norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors
a-Adrenergic compounds
Smooth muscle relaxants



So it has quite a few different receptor targets.
The obvious thing there is the self-regulating aspect. Kratom contains both agonists and antagonists of the opioid receptors, this is the reason why a slight overdose of kratom feels shitty whereas a slight overdose of opiates feels great.
Kratom is thus a natural version of these buprenorphine/naloxone pills; It works the same way, if you take a low dose, the opioid agonists predominate, but if you go too high, the antagonists overpower the agonists and you end up feeling pretty shit.

So in that respect, it's objectively less addictive and less prone to abuse. I've taken 5g instead of my usual 4g and the high pretty much turns to shit; I end up feeling very sick, trembling, light hurts my eyes, vomiting, total dysphoria really.


The non-opioid effects are also what makes kratom feel slightly different from conventional opiates, although if you are using it for the opioid effect, these other effects don't really get in the way.

I find it to be quite stimulating, sometimes it gives me the jitters like caffeine does.
It also seems to be quite a powerful anti-depressant whereas opiates, in my experience, can contribute to depression.

Aaaaaaaand now for the flip side; The downsides.


I was using 20g of poppy pods, in poppy tea, every day for around 6 months, up until 2 months ago when I quit and switched to kratom.

Now, I quit the poppy tea cold turkey, and tolerated as much of the withdrawal as I could before taking kratom; The withdrawal from the morphine wasn't nice, but it wasn't that bad. It was mostly physical. Muscle pain, lack of energy, a sort of "stoned" feeling, sleepiness, etc, but throughout the morphine withdrawals I felt fairly positive mentally.

Then I switched to kratom and that made the opiate withdrawals insignificant, however I have since observed that withdrawals from kratom seem to be much worse (for me) than those of morphine.
Kratom withdrawals cause a crazy amount of restlessness, especially restless legs, extreme lethargy, and a severely depressed state in my experience.

Also sadly because kratom has a very short biological half-life, I find myself taking my last dose at 6pm and waking up at 9am feeling restless and completely without energy; I have to somehow drag my ass out of bed and take my kratom, and only then do I have the energy to get up and do stuff; And then I have a lot of energy.


So basically it's hard to avoid withdrawals in the morning if you are such a heavy user, which really sucks, because when I was taking poppy tea I could go 24 hours and only then would I begin to feel the start of mild withdrawals.


I have a bit of a mental conflict though, because I know that morphine is safe; I do not know if kratom is safe (for longterm use)...
So how can I justify taking what is essentially an RC because it is less addictive, rather than taking a strongly addictive, but safe, drug?



And yes, kratom does keep cravings away; I'm currently using morphine at the weekend, and kratom for the rest of the week; This way I get to enjoy the morphine much more than with daily use.

Another small point; I notice that, while taking morphine over the weekend, I begin to feel rather tired by the end of the second day... I think this is withdrawal from the non-opioid effects of kratom.

Well my preferences have changed a lot over time...
I used to love whites and like greens, but I didn't like reds at all.

Now I love reds and like greens, but don't really like whites anymore.

I rediscovered reds when I was having trouble sleeping, and realized that the red strains are actually awesome for morning and night!

Green is a nice all-round one, but to be honest I prefer reds at the moment.

That said, I've temporarily run out of reds so I'm taking a 50/50 mixture of green and white :frown:

Awesome! I loved greens especially bright greens and a lot of times maeng da was my go to. I was taking 7-10 grams before I'd go to sleep at like 11pm, and much like you Id wake up restless, and let me tell ya, I've never had whole body restlessness like I've gotten from kratom, from very high doses of pharmaceuticals and strong ones at that. And also like you between 830-930am I'd begin getting restless.

It's start in my limbs and then spread to the rest of my body. I couldn't believe how involving it was. That became a constant issue and was a real strain.

So one day a friend gave me a whole bunch of his red strain, it wasn't capsulized and he couldn't choke the powder down, which it is rough we all know. So I ended up running out of my green strain and started with the red.

At first I didn't like it too much. Yeah it relaxed me a little, quite the opposite from greens energetic/slight relaxing quality, and it did seem to kill pain pretty well. The duration of the red was around the same for me as the green. Around 7-8hrs.

Night came and I took my dose around 10pm. I expected to wake up tossing and turning around 7-8 but that never happened to my pleasant suprise! Each night that I took the red, no restlessness when it wore off. In fact not much of any wds when it wore off. I even went another day at one point expecting to feel shitty from not having it for almost two days. I did feel a little weaker than normal, and maybe just slightly short of breath, but that was all I noticed. And I was fine with that because I'll take just about anything over that full body restlessness.

TL;DR Green and white energizing strains seem to have a much worse restlessness WD symptom upon discontinuation.

Has that been the case for you?

Dig a little deeper into those "kratom deaths" and you'll learn in every single case that the person had at least one other substance(usually pharms) in their system. What's worse is they often know the pharm is the most likely cause but because the doctors don't have very much knowledge about kratom they write kratom as the cause. They blame the unknown because it's looks a lot better for them than blaming the same pharmaceuticals they prescribe. Pretty much if you have kratom in your system and have a medical emergency they're gonna blame the kratom even if it logically had nothing to do with it. Which isn't helpful for anyone

Isolates were good.  Leaf was best with weed.  Some 15x ethanol extract enhanced leaf grown domincan was as strong as islolates.

Seems america is ruled by old ladies and concerned mothers.  Then the wonder why their kids od on heroin.
