I wouldn't stress about the climate and certainly no politician cares much about it either. It's about surviving for today and dealing with whatever tomorrow brings when dealing with our environment.

I seriously hope you're not defending China. Thousands are dying in that country because of the pollution. A lot of people refuse to even visit China because it's so bad. China makes America look like the garden of eden.

You think the DEMS are going to "GIVE" anything to trump???

More like if we don't get our radical leftist shit show together it will by default be "given" to trump again. We will have nobody to blame but ourselves, yet I see no other outcome at this point... The people that voted for trump are still there, and there are more of them with some of the argueable successes he's had, then combine that with the fact that incumbents almost ALWAYS have an advantage on top of the fact that the dems answer to trump being elected was to get more radical, and have a TON of voices in the race so nobody can hear any clearly, and what messages do get through are the shockingly leftist sound bites further alienating the regular American voter...

The dems have created a shit show that has paved the road in gold to "The Donald" getting a second term of grabbing women by the pussy...

There are 2 Chinas. First the old "ANYTHING for economic growth and a modern lifestyle" China, which absolutely caused a lot of pollution, and the cutting edge, advanced, visionary China that is heavily invested in supplying the world with green energy/saving technology.

Its over a billion people, China is like a whole continent onto its own.

You can't tar it all with the same brush. Its too big.

Because they have nothing of substance to actually say, and apparently the only alternative is to drown out any productive conversation that diverges from their emotionally driven opinions.

I've tried to cut out all the background noise by inviting any of our right-wing members to engage in a more formal conversation with me. We've all seen the two threads that resulted from this open invite; Qman decided that the optics of staying silent was better than revealing the shallowness of his antisemitism and stopped participating, and I think it's fair to assume this will be the same result with XUL. Literally in this thread we have qman shrugging off one of the pinnacles of cognition seen on Earth, the ability to plan for the future, without any concern. Modern day conservatism is intellectually bereft.

What would four more years do that the initial four couldn't? The accelerationist within me appreciates the Trump effect, but you have more faith in the rationality of the voting public than I do. Like organized religion, far-right populism is comforting because it provides simple solutions to multifaceted problems - until they are personally affected, I don't expect them to care - by the time they are personally affected, irreparable damage will have already happened.

Even if we ignore the human rights abuses that will continue, the Ecstatic makes a great point with regards to anthropogenic climate change - we don't have another four years to wait on the hope that something will finally change. It's much more likely that the natural disasters, climate refugees, and all the other disruptions to the status quo we can expect to occur, will only fuel the support for right-wing populism rather than decrease it. People won't start suddenly working towards global solutions to climate change once food shortages crop up in American cities because vast tracts of agricultural land have become deserts, instead they'll vote in fascist leaders who promise to protect them and preserve their way of life from the rampaging hordes of foreigners at any cost - even if the promises are empty.
