very open ended question but it depends on a lot of factors, moisture content, substrate etc.. also bushfires can hinder the development of subs. they can grow in grass as well, i personally have only ever found small flushes of subs in Bracken most of the bigger flushes come from the dead pines that are harvested and left to rot within the plantations themselves. generally if you are a novice hunter it may be easier to get your eye in hunting suburban areas you may have more luck in woodchipped garden beds and parks with shade and eucalypts etc. sometimes forests will be completely void of subs for no apparent reason.
