Pan Sub?
    #26085517 -

Habitat:
I discovered these little guys in the partially shaded lawn of a house in Montreal Quebec Canada next to a new red cedar mulch bed. It has been an unusually rainy summer and very cold at night but hot and sunny during the day

Gills:
Beige, same as cap and stem

Stem:
Length= 2 inches, very thin, light brown, texture = smooth, hollow

Cap:
Diameter = 1 inch, beige, texture, conical/spherical ?, convex/concave?
You tell me, I'm a noob hunter

Spore print color:
black

Bruising:
none

Other information:
close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills. Smells very good unlike cubes imo.

Is this magic, inactive or poisonous. Expert mycologists please identify. Thank you

The texture of the cap was smooth and brittle, the stem was wet

Are you sure that’s a JET BLACK sport print? Looks brown to me. Wait for a TI but I bet it’s P foenisecii.

Well I think panaeolus cinctulus it is not since it was found in a lawn. If the print is jet black then it is likely a weakly active panaeolus either undescribed or perhaps fimicola / olivaceus.
Some mushrooms in your collection also appear to be pan foes. You should spore print each one

I think it should still be described as pan cinctulus, Its almost identical to the hay and dung species minus the substrate from which it spawns. Also yes spore print all as it does look like a mixed collection.

Subbalteatus and cinctulus are not two names for the same species!?

Are any of those toxic, or worst case scenario SWIM just won't trip balls if he eats them?

The caps have all been decapitated and are sitting on aluminum foil under a glass jar as we speak my good sir.

P foenisecii are just inactive, not toxic killers correct? No chance that mine are the nightmare fungus galerina autumnalis or something like that right?

I picked those yesterday afternoon, this morning a whole new smaller batch sprouted up.

One of them bruised blue at the base of the stem when picked!

I understand that is quite rare for magic pans?

There was also what looked like some fuzzy white mycelium and roots. I snipped that off and threw it in a jar of distilled water and honey. I forgot to mention that some stood alone while others grew 3-4 stacked together a few feet away. The whole patch was about 15 feet by 5 feet in size. After this second harvest I hosed the area down with the mist setting to see if more appear in greater numbers tomorrow.

You need to inspect every single one carefully. There are no know toxic Panaeolina species. If it is 100%JET BLACK then it is most likely safe. According to Stamets. Wait for a TI or do more research but you are probably fine man.

My own method to make sure it’s “safe” is to ingest a small piece and wait 1 hour.  Remember people are allergic to all kind of things and peanuts kill some people. Your safety is ultimately your own but there is a lot of great info on here that will lead you to making a good and informed decision

I read that it could take up to 10 hours after ingesting poisonous mushrooms before people start feeling sick then ending up in the emergency room with liver failure and needing dialysis for the rest of their lives if they survive.

The gills of my specimens were light brown, the same color as the rest of the mushroom. It says here that the gills of fimicola are grey and those of olivaceous are green

That is horrifying, I find all mushrooms look very similar to each other. Pictures of this death cap remind me of a fly agaric, except white

Death caps have white spores.. most Amanitas and poisonous mushrooms have white spores. Amatoxin poisoning shows symptoms in 6 hours. Read up on it and do some good research before you start picking mushrooms. It’s only dangerous when you don’t take the time to understand what you are doing. Then it might cost you your life so if I were you I would buy a good field guide and research research research
