Mould after cutting and air drying. Safe to eat?

Hi all who read.
I'm a seasoned hunter, however this year is the first time I cut the stems from the caps on a bunch of P. Subs and left them to spore print for a 2-3 days in a cold garage. There is a small amount of white fuzz/mould on the ends of the stems where I cut, would this stuff be safe to consume in this quantity?



Ideally I would have dehydrated after ~8-12 hours of getting a light spore print, but I wanted heavy spore collection to spread around my garden. Beautiful thick spore prints:

Yes. It would be best to plant them in woodchips or suitable substrate.

Oh woah I didn't know transplanting mushrooms was possible. So the stem is essentially growing mycelium? and the theory is this would then spread back into the growing medium?

If it's not mould I will just dry with the caps. I prefer the feelings gained from consuming the stems along with the caps.

How about snipping 5mm off the base of each stem with the growing mycelium to plant and keeping the rest to include with your caps for eating ??

Yeah. That’s not mold. That is new mycelium growing. Stem butts will get a little fuzzy if they aren’t dried out quickly.

Yep, i didnt know it was possible till i saw olive do it.

Olive's work is what got me started on cultivation in the first place. By far the easiest form of.

And that's with accidentally half-cooking it all halfway through :blush:

Fascinating stuff! Referring to OOISI's link, I think that's where this lot originated from in the first place, by me burring a sheet of spore prints in the garden several years ago which I forgot about until this week :awesome:

Corrugated cardboard. Literally cut a box up, dampen so the layers come apart, place one layer in the bottom of a takeaway container, place stem on the cardboard, place another layer on top, put lid on.
