3rd attempt at growing cubes * 1
    #26055614 -

So recently I've been trying to grow mushrooms. I've been using vermiculite and brown rice flower and steam it for 90 mins to sterilize the jars.

First attempt was with multi spore B+ strain, the growth was slow and after a few weeks it was rock solid.

2nd Try was with cooked brown rice, used PC strain with LC instead of multi spore. I must have not cooked off enough water because it smelt like rotting rice.

This 3rd go I'm using wide mouth jars, vermiculite and brown rice flower. PC strain with LC syringe. Again the growth us slow I think its been about 5 days now. I don't have a hot fridge but still store the jars in the cupboard. Its dark in there, perfectly clean with just the jars. But its just sitting at room temp.

Why in the first attempt did I not get any fluffy cotton growth? it was rock solid white with maybe a very slight tinge of blue. Never fully colonized the medium after the jar. Again all room temps.

On your first attempt, what did you do once your verm/brf was rock solid?

BRF cakes can and will take a while to colonize...honestly I think you are second guessing yourself. Patience is a must in this hobby.

Post a grow along and update your progress and procedures with pictures and we will help you the best we can.

It sounds like the first attempt was your best

Before you start...Do you have a Pressure Cooker and a Dehydrator? I highly recommend getting both!

I broke it up into small pieces and mixed in coco coir and vermiculite. I did one part of each then added some water. Cant remember how much water I added. I think I did enough till I could squeeze some out of the coir. I didn't pasteurize it either

If I let the jars fully colonize, can I just put them into a fruiting chamber without dunking and rolling in verm?

How do the jars look right now? Not very white. Should I be concerned?

Coir does not require pasteurization

I highly recommend dunk and roll

Maybe the jars were fully colonized long before I realised, and it hardened and died? Because it didn't colonize the coir and verm. I did this like a year ago and didn't try again till recently when I got more syringes.

When the cakes are fully colonized they will consolidate and harden a bit and that is why it is important to re-hydrate them with the dunk and roll.

I've had issues I haven't been able to explain for over year now. I recently did a grow along (still going) with everyone on here and BOOM found my issues, honestly posting a grow along is hands down the best thing you can do on this forum.

+1 on the patience thing too... TON of patience lol
once you get it though... it will just move right along.

What where the problems you were having? Is it just me, or do my jars look weird? Is there a better tek I'm missing here. Like should I be using wild bird seed and just fruit from that?

Your jars look slimy wet inside.

The best TEK for BRF is below.

I did exactly that man, I smoked so much shatter my heads in a spin. I'm doing the same shit he did. Im thinking its about time I use my burma multi spore. I'm gonna make some LC with honey and what kind of jars should I make. Bird seed? Wheat berries?

If you make LC be sure to test it on agar.

Cube spores are cube spores...variety won't be a factor.

I would suggest Rye Berries or Oats first time out...just me

I was using GT LC, burma is a multi spore. I'll post the pictures after a few days. Just steaming it now not using a PC and I'm doing BRF cakes again. Should I be doing half a cc per hole?

Am i the only one wondering where the lc came from?

I don't get the feeling you made the lc from a clean agar culture. If you got it from injecting spore into an lc broth, that is probably your problem

Yeah, that's why I said if you make LC be sure to test it on agar. Even from an agar culture you always wanna recheck the LC.
