plz help with this tray (pic) * 1

i have taken this tray over for a friend for the 2nd time in the last week i put into the fruiting chamber and it has started pinning but now i am noticing a yellowing discoloration i was reading about metabolites and im sure i c some of that but can anyone tell me if this looks ok ?? am i misting too much too little ??? i cant reach my friend til hes back on thurs someone on here helped me last week and im sorry to bother you all again but any help will sure b nice as i dont want to fuck this up for him id feel bad  thank u

Those pins look aborted. The discoloration is most likely due to bacteria.

The surface looks plenty wet, how much fresh air is it getting?

Lots of fresh air is the only thing that will help slow bacteria but honestly I'd say that tray is pretty fucked.

well that sucks to hear i dont kno wtf im doin and he knows that but still didnt want to fuck it up for him 🙁 he had shit come up suddenly for work and had to go away im sure he wont be mad i just feel bad is all i seen the pins when i checked on it today n thought they looked normal for pins just didnt like the way its not white like the pics ive seen on here should i leave the lid off or anything i can do??

The surface looks wet, but the substrate looks dry. It seems to have pulled away substantially from the walls, yes? My recommendation is to peel away that black plastic and try to bottom water that substrate. From there I have two ideas:

1) Re-case it with a little bit of field capacity coir and put it back into fruiting. This'll set it back a little bit as it re-colonizes the top, but I think it needs more moisture, and that's one way to deliver it.

2) Totally peel off the plastic and then soak it for a couple hours in water, then put it back into the fruiting chamber and treat it like a BRF cake and fruit it open and exposed.

Bummer man. I don't know if it happened under your care or his but that surface has been through a lot. As stated above, it was allowed to dry out entirely too much. This results in a matted surface that creates pools of water instead of fine little water sparkles when misted. It's hard to save them after this takes place.

You have a few options, either of sharperdreamers suggestions are fine. Or just ride it out as is and see what happens. Or, seeing as to how the pins do look like they're aborting, harvest them and flip that sucker over. Then take care not to let the surface dry out again.

they already look dead. I would pick those and throw away and hope for new ones after a soak and a re-case. a flip might work as well. ive had some that were completely dead at that point, but I tried anyway. nothing to lose.

ya my fault i dont kno wtf i am doin lol he told me to mist and fan 3 or 4 times a day and showed me how to ask u huys if i needed anything hes out of town and his phone is a work phone so cant send anything about this to him im just in the dark i took ot out and am bottom watering now i figured 2.5-3 hrs?? then i will leave it out of the tray and put on tin foil??  all i kno is wht ive been reading on here im sure glad for the help hopefully il b anle to save sumthin from it hes already said if its fuckd up no big deal but now i really want it to pull thru im kinda diggn this lil hobby lol

Yeah, those pins look fine to me. Aborts are typically purple in color, these pins have dark caps but the stem is normal color.

That said the top layer looks too wet.

I may have jumped the gun on that. I am color blind and often forget to take that into account. The pins do look a little odd though.

shit lol i thought they looked like the pics i been looking at part of the damn cake broke when was trying to take it out of the tray so i read on here and just put it back together it was pretty solid white but i could make out a lil bit of the grains when i took the plastic off there was a few pins on the side as well and i couldnt get it out of the tray without taking the chance of totally breaking it in half so i just left it i sure hope i didnt just really fuck this up lol i know u all were just tryin to help me and im greatful whats the worst that can happen by leaving it in the tray without the plastic around it ???

It will recover if it's healthy and maybe even if it's not. Liners don't really do anything at all.

Were you man handling the ever living shit out of it? Healthy subs are pretty sturdy.

I get your point, professor, but I disagree. Liners absolutely do things. I'm shocked that you would even say that.

To answer your question though dude, the worse that will happen without a line is that you'll mist too much and the sub will end up sitting in standing water too long. This can in to a truly disgusting bacterial goo. It's not good for the community.

lol no didnt man handle it just part of the top layer in the middle shipped out i then thought itl float so i filled the sink up floated it out n scooped it up n put it on foul the pins have grown alot actually so ima just keep it as is hel b back thirsday someone said somethin about recasing it but il let him do that as i dont wanna fuk it more than i have i wish now id have just left it alone to start with cuz now it looks like a total turd lol but o well i dont kno shit im just tryin to help him out but ima have him teach me some things cuz after readin alot on here n playin with his shit id like to try it myself i really am glad you guys have all been very friendly and helpful and for that i thank you here is what looks like now and its not pretty lol

Alright then, I apologise for giving you bad advise. I thought those pins where aborting and was wrong. It is true though, that it was allowed to dry out. This results in a matted pinning surface. You can tell by noticing the parts were the water beads up vs the parts that glaze over when misted.

I'd need to know more about the fruiting chamber to give more precise advise on how to proceed but you basically want to allow it to breathe plenty without drying out. Cubes love fresh air but must remain hydrated. This is the balance we fought to bring into harmonic equilibrium until we get it dialed in. Mist if it looks like it's drying out and then let her breathe until she starts looking dry again. The secret is learning what "dry" looks like and what "too wet" looks like.

ya i agree now that i have looked at alot of your guys pics bit as for the fruiting chamber just a typical sgfc with holes on 2 inch grid on all 6 sides with bout 4-5 inches perlite in it maybe it dried out cuz i work all day so i been comn over and misting and fanning  in the am at 5 and then at 4pm when i get off then again at 10pm b4 bed any other ideas ?

Quit fanning. Make sure the perlite is fully hydrated by taking the cake out and running water over it in a place that it can drain. Outside with a hose is best because it can be quite messy. Once it quits dripping, shaking can speed this up, put back in place and reinsert cake. Be sure that the sgfc is elevated as to allow the floor to breathe. Mist walls and perlite liberally any time you want but only mist the cake if it's starting to dry out. Keeping the fruits too wet for too long will result in bacterial infection of the fruit bodies. Fanning is unnecessary with a properly built sgfc that is elevated.

ya i did that ystrday while it was bottom watering i did it in the bathtub tho  as its a condo and didnt want ppl sayin hey whts that lol but is elevated about 8 inches off the table its on i even had to put a pan under it cuz a lil water was still drippn out not alot just a lil but i c why u ssy outside jesus christ cleanin that shot outta ghe tub was a pain in the ass
