First B+ Shoebox

Took one of my colonized BRF cakes and broke it up into choir+verm. Now I just need to wait for colonization... How does it look?

Looks good, how much coir was used compared to the one cake. Just wondering the ratio, if it's over a 1:2 ratio it might take awhile to colonize

Pretty close to 1:2 ratio of cake to verm/coir. Would direct lighting from a bulb increase or decrease colonization time?

Increase, a 12/12 light cycle is best. Some people say bulbs work fine, a 6500k is the best. But ambient sun in a room works the best I feel. But if it has to be left in a closet or somewhere without sun, a 6500k bulb can easily be found at any hardware or Walmart.

I just checked this morning for mycelium growth after 12 hours of no light. I can see mycelium starting to grow on the surface! It is now time for 12 hours of light. I'm eager to see what tomorrow will look like.



I also made another brf to bulk using only coir this time, no added verm. 1:1 ratio this time with a coir top layer. Let's see what happens in a few days!

How long do you think it will take to fruit?  I have a (just) colonized jar and am trying to decide whether to use this method, or wait a week for it to consolidate and then follow your method.  I need to do whatever will bear fruit fastest as I'm going out of town in three weeks (yikes!).

I inoculated those jars on May 25th with the B+ strain. So it took just about 2 weeks for my jars to colonize before I put them in bulk. It'll probably take about two weeks, maybe 10 days, from the time I mixed bfr cake into the tub, to fruition.

I purchased my jars off the internet ready to go, so I did not have to prep. Just inoculate with spore syringe and wait :cool:

Colonization is really slow, if not completely stalled. I may call this one a failed shoebox, but it was my very first go with a BRF cake to bulk. I will continue to update for another week or so, and throw it out if there is no more progress.

The one that's not planning out is the 1:2 ratio? I am preparing to shred some BRF cakes into a shoebox this week and am thinking I'll go closer to 1:1 given how your has panned out...

Yup, in my experience 1:1 worked the best. Not worried if this one doesn't pan out, I've got plenty of backups performing well :cool: :mushroom2:

The first one looked pretty dry to me. B+ also grows pretty slow.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the first one is a bust. Everything that I've read and experienced shows B+ to be an extremely fast colonizer.
