maple trees

if you put a tap in a maple tree a sweet liquid comes out, you can collect this liquid in 1 litre jars and put 2 tea bags in and let it sit overnight in the fridge, the resulting liquid is the best sweet tea ever, I used green tea bags

I wish I had some maple sap right now damn seasonal food, I want to use it to make lemonade, not the same when you dissolve sugar, plus I bet the sap has nutrients unlike sugar water

I was thinking about tapping maple trees today. Guerrilla style. There are some 1m+ diameter monsters in this park I go to.

Big-leaf maples on the west coast can be sugared too. Best size is 12in/30cm. Out here you tap them in Dec-Jan because it never gets cold enough to draw the sap into the roots. Sugar maples are +/-3% sugar big-leafs are about 2%. Lotta boiling for syrup. You can also boil some down, mix it back into some sap, and ferment it. I do like the fridge tea idea gopher suggests.

its goona be a low yeild unless you tap a large area. with random maples it will be an even lower yeild.

I make acerglyn with my family's syrup. i just mix thr syrup with water though not sap.
