Do my cakes need more FAE? * 2

I've successfully spawned and fruited allenii, cyanescens, azurescense and ovoideocystidiata in outdoor environments. I haven't grown cubensis in quite some time.

I think I am lacking FAE.

My cakes are in an HC. I pasteurized coir, brought to max capacity and put a heating pad under the chamber. The room was 50 degrees and they'd never fruit without it.

No problems so far. I started from spore and did two transfers and took a third to be sure all was clean. I let those plates colonize and inoculated them with LI.

The lid to the HC is upside down but it's a weird lid and kinda keeps it more closed than right side up.

Is this the beginning of amazing pin sets? I took the fastest growing mycelium to get fast colonizers and then I could narrow genetics down from there.

Some started fruiting in vitro, and the fucked up mushrooms are B+ so I'm not worried about that. I'm moreso worried why some of the cakes are covered in spikey stuff and/or bubbles.

Oh and I fan/mist every 4 to 6 hours. This is making sure the FC still smells like mushrooms. I try to mist until the evap rises so I know I vacated the cold air in the chamber. The heating pad is also reset every 4-6h and runs for 60-90 minutes.

Should I stop misting and keep the lid a little more cracked? It seems like too much humidity for a fruiting chamber while they're pinning. Is this correct?

Looks like aerial mycelium. I believe its both too moist and not enough FAE if Im right. I would prop the lid with something small for better airflow.

I can see a few of the spikes "knotting up" I believe. This morning I began to feel like their environment was wrong and they needed much less humidity and more air. I know they're a tropical mushroom but not this tropical. The knotty mass of B+ has its growth stalled a little. By that I mean not as fast as when it first started fruiting.

For the record, my take on the HC so far:

It's like when I grew cubensis 20 years ago. I would normally use a SGFC, but the trade off with perlite is what got me. Having a (required) heating pad under a SGFC would never work so this was the logical better choice.

I am just testing genetics on these cakes or I'd be doing bulk. I want to eventually do it. One thing though is the amount of work for building an FC is the same amount of work for spawning grains to cvg. Or less really if you think about mixing up the cakes and adding dvb and the 24h dunk.

Another jar is fruiting in vitro so I'm birthing that. My biggest mistake was making my own brf. These cakes took 8 weeks and there's some wrapping up at 10w. But it's been very cold and rainy here and sitting in the window sill wasn't great.

Also I lost a few jars to green death from over handling the jars that sat for six months before being inoculated. The mycelium would have colonized the jars much faster if I did the sub right and didn't sit on the jars. Some of them colonized partially very fast and then compromised the dvb before colonizing all the way around.

I'm starting from scratch again soon and do this thing the basic tried and true way. I didn't realize how chunky and coarse my brf was compared to the pulverized powder you can just buy. I might get a higher yield from leaving rice chunks in, but Christ on a cross it has taken forever in this climate.

Yeah, chunky BRF does not work well at all. Fine stuff is great thou. Mixes easily.

Not sure what you mean by heating pad under the SGFC. Theres no heating required for the SGFC, unless your house is constantly under 50F indoors.

It's been freezing and cloudy here for months. 40-60 is the average temp. I don't heat spare rooms and I usually just wear more clothes or a blanket. There's no point heating the whole place for a small grow.

I should clarify. I meant I'm using a HC because fuck perlite. I knew my FC would need a heating pad, and covering the bottom of a sgfc would ruin it's functionality. I have some jars fruiting out in the open so I could have a comparison with heat and humidity. They're doing nothing.

Should I reroll these? I think I've seen this before and that helped solve the problem. Is this 100% lack of fae? Some of the reaching tendrils are bruising blue. Too much misting?
