Rob Derhak from moe. is by far the sickest bassist I've seen. HE doesn't slap as often as he used to but that's mainly because he is one with the music and only does it when it's warrented. I'm really super hella-surprised there aren't more moe. fans around here.

And I don't think I've heard Phil even mentioned yet. Years ago, when I first started listening to the Dead I used to wonder if he even knew how to play bass at all or if he just made it up. But of coarse if you hear it in the "zone" he can do no wrong. Phil Lesh for president.

no bass player i have ever heard has measured up to victor wooten, especially while playing with one of the best banjo players alive (bela fleck)

I definitely agree with Fireworks..Tyr from Borknagar is amazing.. as well as Cliff Burton - THE Master of the 4 string. I also agree with whoever said Steve DiGiorgio.. who has played bass for Death, Control Denied, Iced Earth, Dragonlord, and tons of other amazing metal bands..

Victor Wooten is, of course.. fucking amazing and inhuman.
Geddy Lee is also a prime example of :eek:
It's hard enough to play some crazy bass arpeggios, but while singing.. and playing keyboard with your feet?

Oh yeah, and can't forget Fireworks_God and Shroomism. I hear those guys are pretty good.

for a great example of Bela Fleck with Victor Wooten i highly recommend EVERYBODY download "Next"

they dont get technically out there on it, but its a great example of how solid they are as a team

"Sleeper" is another epic track by them, a bit more involved than Next (its 12 minutes long) but you wont regret the listen

Sweet, I am definitely going to check some of this stuff out..I'm especially interested in hearing Wooten and Fleck together..I just realized last night I have a bunch of Flecktones downloaded, I think it's about time I get acquainted with some of that :smile:

Some of these I haven't found any other name for other than "bass solo" but these tracks shouldn't be too hard to find on Kazaa or an other p2p. (hopefully)

Download any of stu hamm's stuff, especially:

"country music"
"amazing bass solo" - also called "quahogs anyone"
"live in pittsburgh bass solo"-  might have to look up Joe Satriani to find this one.
"Sleigh ride" - yes, it's a Christmas song, but the bass playing is fantastic!
And he does an amazing version of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, as well as Bach's Prelude in C major.

Check it out! I guarantee he will knock ur socks off!

My god!!  Just looked up Stu Hamm and saw Satriani's name so I downloaded it..It's just called bass solo though, I'm not sure if it's the same one you're reffering to..

He played the peanuts theme!!!!  hahaha.. I've been trying to find tabs for that song for a while, with no success, I was just surprize he started playing it.  But damn, what a brilliant recording..his tapping sounds unreal..

I'm never going to get over that peanuts theme song though!!  :lol:

Yea when I first heard that I was amazed.Because I hadn't heard of tapping I thought it must have been two basses playing.

This is definitely going to take some time to get comfortable with..but I love working towards getting the hang of new techniques anyway :smile:  This almost feels like trying to play a piano in a weird kind of way..using both hands at opposite sides of the fretboard.

The track didn't start off with "there is no crazier place.."  It basically starts right off introducing Stu..  either way thats such an awesome recording, I'm gonna check out the others' real soon.  :mushroom2:

Hehe, I knew I had seen the name Bela Fleck before. I was downloading a bunch of acoustical tabs in Guitar Pro and decided to grab some banjo tabs for the hell of it... a song called Cold, Frosty Morning..... my god that shit is totally insane! :shocked:

I whole heartedly recommend it... the bass is just insanely beyond. Especially the fill towards the end.... its just... wow.  :eek:

There are a few bassists around these parts.. myself.. Shroomism.. ekomstop.... manna man... everyone else that I can't think of at the moment... I say we all record some of our playing and post 'em up in this thread. :wink: I'll record tonight... I just need to find some place to host it. Anyone know of any good hosting places? :grin:

I cannie believe that John Endwistle hasn't come up...put on The Who Live at Leeds, turn up the bass and let the greatest live act in rock and roll (ever) roll all over you...

Endwistle played the best bass runs ever. I'll add probably, incase some people start getting protective. But he did. Shame he's dead, but doin coke at 60+ while fucking some stripper just before a gig probably ain't too good for an old man.

I can't record now though 'cause I was sanding rust off of a flag pole and then painting it, and I was really aching after that, and then I played some bass anyways... :grin:

Two other great bassists are Lars K. Norberg from Spiral Architect and Gary Willis from Tribal Tech. If you havent heard them, you will be pleased once you do. Does anyone else on this board enjoy tech. metal and fusion?
