To understand if there is any loss in potency, you should munch down fresh mushrooms (IMO they taste better fresh than dried) and compare against dried from the same harvest.

You may notice that fresh comes on a little quicker/stronger, but beyond that the trip will be the same.

Also, experiment with different temps and different lengths. You'll learn what others are telling you here: Drying doesn't destroy potency. Drying at different temps or lengths doesn't. It's a fun experiment for you to confirm this for yourself.

Length of storage - assuming they were dried and stored correctly - also doesn't noticably affect potency.

Sweet thanks brotha. Yea I plan to do some personal experimentation with drying times and temps to see for myself. But im pretty convinced at this point im totally fine with my mehtod of 165F for about 8hours !

For me I cant sleep when my dehydrator is running so i have to get the drying process done as fast as possible and plan my drying sessions out accordingly.

I would hate to have to run it for 24 hours. Mind you I dont LOAD it up like crazy there is lots of air and space around fruits.

Lol picking is usually the last thing I do in the day before I go to bed, I can just load it up turn it on, pass out for 8+ hours, see if they are cracker dry in the morning and if not, I just go to work and come home for lunch 4 hours later and by then I know they are done(all depending on how much I load up)

Mushboy started a great thread where he compares shrooms stored in a bag for a week that were dried at various times, that is very interesting. It made me change my drying time from 6-8hrs to 24-30hrs, and I can confirm that 30hrs on my dehydrators highest setting does not hurt potency.

I would do the same but i have to keep my dehydrator in my bed room. And I cant sleep because it makes my room to warm and its to noisy. In the future when I have my own space I will do just this. THanks

Why is that?



Imagine a single mushroom in an airflow. The windward side is in contact with moving warm dry air. The leeward side is in contact with cool, mostly stationary air.

Now imagine a bunch of mushrooms stacked in a pile. Air flow through the bunch becomes chaotic and turbulent. That turbulence eliminates cooler cushions of air. Your mushrooms are getting assaulted with moving warm air from all directions.

More stuff in the dehydrator makes them more efficient.

That's how I understand it.

BTW i just check all my stash of mushrooms and they are 100% still cracker dry and powderize easily.

I find APE's are very pithy in the middle .
