Drying with Dehydrator at 165F (74C)
    #25969520 -

Im very conflicted on what to beleive when it comes to drying temps and degrading your potency.

I have been doing very well with mycology and starting to get some great results now and im starting to pull in the flushes and gather a good amount of mushrooms. The thing im worried about is that iv dryed over 1/2 P now at 165F ( 74C) and im afraid that they are all going to be weak.

A friend of mine said he tryed roughly 3 g and they were weak.

When I dry them , they are in the dehydrator for 5-8 hours at 165F ( 74C ) Until cracker dry then sealed in an amber jar. Iv read so much on here about people saying this is totally fine. But now im starting to wonder since there is so much conflicting information on this topic.

Should i chill a bit with the high drying temps? maybe do a bit less heat for a bit more time?

And legit feed back is highly appreciated as i dont want to continue to produce weak fruits from my drying method ( if this is even happening )

ALSO i found this study someone did on degredation of actives. Circumstances are a bit different for this study than drying fresh fruits, but it still shows that heat does degrade actives. Check it out.

It's most likely the mush you grew were on the weaker side.
You can drop actives in a deep fryer and they will still be as  potent as ever.
Heat only effects when it's 300 something degrees plus

I think the actives start degrading somewhere around 400°

Honestly I would go for 12-24 hrs to dehydrate and don’t worry about temp, it wont hurt them, if there not potent it’s because u grew shrooms that arnt potent. Also your probably not getting them cracker dry in 5-8hrs, they may seem like it but there probably not:shrug:

But is there conclusive studies or evidence to prove this?

You could be right and these particular mushrooms my bud said were weakish could have been genetically weaker since it was MS , I will prob try some tonight and see for myself.

SOme people say drying temps of up to 200F is totally fine. Other say hell no your damaging your magic.

Im looking for concrete evidence, real studies.

12 - 24 hours at what temp?

At 165F my mushrooms are cracker dry and can be powderized into fine dust after roughly 5-8 hours. For real, you could pulverize in a mortar in pestle into a very fine dust. They def are " cracker dry " after 5-8 hours at 165F I can assure that.  Iv read alot about actives degrading due to long periods of time with moisture left in the fruit due to enzymes having enough moisture to stay alive and denature the actives, hence why ppl say get em cracker dry as fast as possible?

I've gotten my mush powder dry after a 8h run at 165° but it was only about 2-3 oz in the dehydrator.

The evidence is in the members who have been doing this for years even decades. And yes you could go up to 200°

I can't find any links of people deep frying there actives right now cause I'm at work, but trust me there are a good few who have done it and they are delicious.

And how did your buddy dose?
Did he eat it all at once? Or over a period of a few hours?
Is he on medication?
Did he eat them on a full stomach?
Their are lots of variables..

This is another thing i was considering. He wasnt specific about details, and not even sure he weighed them. I asked him what was the max amount he ate at once, and he replied " About 3g " So that being said he may not have even weighed them

Interesting. But that would still be different than drying with heat and lots of air movment over the course of hours. Oxidation from heat and air movment for many hours is what is the main killer of actives i would think.

And you have never noticed a potency loss at drying temps of 165F for up to 8 hours?

Guys this has been talked about. The only thing that messes up potency is leaving water in the fruits. I always dry 24 hours to be sure they are 100% dry.

There won't be any studies lol.

But you can deep fry your own strong cubes and find out for yourself.

Air doesn't cause oxidation enzymes do. Enzymes that are destroyed by heat. Enzymes catalyze the oxidation reactions.

Can you explain that a little more for me? Bod what temp do you dry your fruits at?

Honestly could be something like that idk for sure.

Def got me worried tho because i have like 10-11 oz of cracker dry mushrooms that were all dryed at 165F .

Im guna dose some tonight and see for myself.

I tryed 2 g of APE that i dryed at 165F last weekend and i tripped failry hard to just 2g but it wasnt very visually colourfull, more so emotional and deep with some morphing and warping.

I do 170f for 24 hours or as long as it takes

Oxygen from the air doesn't just readily react with most things.

I do about 16-18 hours at 135f. Seems to work great for me. Haven't noticed any significant drop in potency

Awesome guys thanks for all your feedback. I knew i was fine with 165F for 8 ish hours.

I think I can finally rest with this information, iv been reading about it all morning and seems to be the consensus.

Still find those people that swear by air drying with just a fan for 48 hours and stuff like that. I dont get it.
