Hello there, I collected these in the same patch assuming they are the same species in different stages of maturity. However I'm now not sure on this and have posted as separate species.

Species #1

Habitat:
North of Wellington. Growing on wood chips

Gills:
Colour: dark brown. Attached

Stem:
Length: 10-15mm, diameter: 3mm, colour: white, texture: firm, solid.

Cap:
Diameter: 15mm, colour: Chestnut brown to golden, texture: smooth, conical, convex, campanulate.

Spore print colour:
Faint, purply brown?

Bruising:
Definite bluing on stem.

Other information:
Distinct blue bruising on stem. I'm assuming this is the less mature morphology. Spore print very faint as I suspect cap not fully opened.

Species #2

Habitat:
North of Wellington. Growing on wood chips

Gills:
Colour: Brown. Attached

Stem:
Length: 40-50mm, diameter: 3mm, colour: white, texture: firm, solid, thin.

Cap:
Diameter: 25mm, colour: Chestnut brown to golden, texture: smooth, plane, broadly convex.

Spore print colour: Brown, crowded.

Bruising:
Stem: darkening, not however distinctly blue. Cap: Some bluing.

Other information:
I'm assuming this is the mature morphology?

Active Psilocybe, maybe something like Ps. aucklandii or Ps. tasmania. I'm from the Northern hemisphere so I'm not sure about the species only the Genus.

Edit psilocybe subsecotoides or something, my spelling is probably wrong.

You have subsecotoiodes and subaeruginosa

You have two Psilocybe species, the first one according to DNA sequencing is conspecific with P. weraroa, a while back I coined the name P. subsecotioides before any sequencing was done, that name is invalid, I still want to see further proof that they are conspecific.

Your second one is a Psilocybe species, without more data, microscopy and DNA we can't id it to species.

Thanks, I went back to the same patch again this afternoon. Interesting enough found several of what I believe to be a P. weraroa growing, centre below image. All within a 1x1 metre area.

I think its very evident that he has subaeruginosa as the second species.
