Cat jumped out of car while in drivethrough

Hey psilosopher, you should take the cat thats been in our family for years, I think she'd be happier out at your place. We can totally trust you with her life.

I've been driving her back and forth between the two residences quite a bit lately because I didn't trust her alone at my place yet. I thought she was accustomed to the car because of that, but I'm at a drivethrough last night getting some fast  food that wasn't even good and she jumps out of the window, gets scared by all the other cars around and just bolts. I run out of my car and pursue her but she's just running for it, so I'm forced by drive-through rigmarole to get back in my car and look for her after the fact. Looked around for like 2 hours, she ran in the worst possible part of town, no fucking clue where she was likely to go and I imagine anybody who saw me thought I was up to no good, walking behind a bunch of closed businesses.

I'm just feeling so lousy about it, I'm such a fucking idiot. I'm never unnecessarily eating fast food again. At least she got one super happy night in a warm bed before it happened, she'd been an outdoor cat for most of her life so she was just lovin it.

Might be hard for anyone to catch her. If she jumped out and disappeared she's probably the skiddish type that can't be caught. I've had cats disappear, sucks but cats are still half wild animals that survive fine without human assistance. At least she wasn't a dog, such a dreadful feeling when a dog disappears.

right on. I just double checked and its only 3 miles and she was looking out the window for most of the drive. She's awfully old but fingers crossed. Found a decent picture as well.

I once moved 3 miles down my same road I was living on. Our cat ran away and eventually found our old house and was there with my grandma, who was still living there. Cats have a good sense of direction. They can get back if they want to.

dude you should've gotten a ticket those things are supposed to be in cages

no animal should just be left to roam in a car especially when you're driving, you could kill someone

A good rule of thumb to be sure but she's frail and chill. Mostly in the back seat going from window to window checking out the sights

Sending good vibes! I hope you find your furry friend.  I had a ferret that got outside and I was so busted up about it- two days later he crawled in the doggy door and I found him chilling on the living room rug miserable with a hash of ticks but otherwise alright. 

If she’s an outside cat- she at least has the foundation to avoid cars etc and I hope you find her soon.

Once when I was a kid we were taking our cat to the vet and he was on a leash moving from the car into the building and slipped out of the leash. It ran to a post office next door under a mail truck. We chased after it but there was like a hundred mail trucks. We never saw him again. I know this story probably won't make you feel any better, but I hope you find your cat. You didn't mean for this to happen and cats can do OK outside on their own even if you can't find it.

We had this cat when I was a lad that got hit by a car and was presumed dead. We'd see her on rare occasion years later, always looking very hurt as if she'd just been hit by the car, like she was some zombie in purgatory wandering the earth.

I drive around with my cat in the front seat all the time.. Well not all the time but once or twice lol
Its fun watching him be like WTF watching the world as we drive by. Sometimes he gets sick and pukes under the seat tho.

Do you live in a city Psilo? call your local pound and def put posters and shit up.
If she was an outdoor cat she's most likely fine and can figure out how to survive.
Did she have a collar on? Some crazy old cat lady might have taken her in by now.
