Shitbox nissan troubles
    #25909371 -

My Nissan was giving me grief today. I'm at a red light when the check engine light comes on. The car wouldn't accelerate and started rolling back (I was on a hill) when I took my foot off the brake.

Turned the car off, restarted it, check engine light went off and it drove fine. Every once in a while when idling the car will vibrate shake a little bit.

Any ideas?

Check the codes.
My Nissan was loosing power" ALL POWER" while driving randomly.
And stalling at stop lights.
It was my IGNITION coil.
Is was internal "Inside the distributor."
But I was able to order the part for 13$ and replaced it my self. Instead of replacing the entire distributor.$250. LOL

Usually when you check the codes it will tell you the problem.

If one of the code is "Ignition Coil Primary" then its the ignition coil.

GO TO AUTO ZONE OR ADVANCED AUTO PARTS AND GET THE CODES.
What model and year Nissan?

I have an obd reader at home, I'm not sure if it will throw a code now that the check engine light is off. It's worth a check.

It's an 08 rogue

I have the same problem. Every dealership tells me the car is fine..but it's not. Every 5th time I drive the car, when it's in idle, the RPM meter goes up and down and the car shakes a little. When you drive, you cant accelerate all the way and the car won't go past 45 MPH.

No clue what it is and the only way I fix it is shutting it off for 3 minutes and turning it back on. I've been trying to figure this out for 6 months. Good luck.

I doubt it has anything to do with the check engine light because mine goes on and off as well...the problem? No power is going to one of the sensors. Every fucking dealer/repair shop tells me it's the sensor and replaces it and sends me on my way..stealing over 200 dollars from me. This happened twice until I almost fought a guy once because he kept telling me the light will go off and everything will be fine once the sensor is replaced. I kept telling him I have been through this 2 times already and the problem isn't the sensor..its that there's no power going to the sensor. And nobody wants to put the work in to go through everything to find out where the wiring is off or whatever.

Whatever you do, if they say the light being on is the sensor, DON'T PAY FOR A NEW SENSOR. Tell them what I just said.

This is the first incident of anything like this happening. The car is actually in pretty good shape otherwise, could use a trans flush but that's likely not pertaining to this. You ever come to a conclusion as to what's happening with yours? Asking around I've heard its probably a sensor. You're getting me nervous with your story ha

I think I'm gonna sell the thing before it shits out on me. I have a grease monkey friend and I'll see if he has the time to check it out before I do so. My conscience is a mother fucker though and wont let me not disclose the issue.

I really hate the car, always have. It has a weird habit of abruptly lurching forward when I'm steadily accelerating. Like I'm giving it big toe, taking a turn out of the gas station and it suddenly jerks like I punched it.

I've had a lot of 4cyl rice burners and while they have a tendency to be punchy this fucking car is super jerky...gas/steering. It's soooo not smooth. Making a big turn down a curvy road is like a series of incremental 1/2 inch turns of the steering wheel opposed to a smooth movement.

I'd like to get a jeep grand Cherokee. I had an 07 jeep Cherokee (5.7L hemi) that got totaled by some asshat driving on the wrong side of the road. I miss it dearly, first vehicle i had with some balls

I'm kicking around getting a used srt8. If I could justify burying myself, I'd get a trackhawk

I'm looking to spend like 15k or less. Kicked around the thought of getting a Toyota pick up as my second option

A good starting point is usually to google the OBD code and your model of vehicle.  Someone else (probably many) has had this exact problem before and talked about it on the internet.  Search and find out how they resolved it.  The obd code will still be there.  It could be an igntion system problem.  It could also be a transmission problem if its lurching forward all the sudden.  Good luck OP.  Car problems suck.

Get a piece of tape and stick it over the area where the light comes on.

Since no one is fucking helping ,
Is it auto or manual tranny?

If it's auto, and you're in drive on your tranny on a hill, but it rolls back once you release the brakes, it's quite obvious the tranny did not engage with the motor.

I have no idea what year or model of Nissan you own, but since the check engine light came on and went back off, the most logical conclusion is that one of the sensors in your transmission is becoming faulty. Telling the motor, drive is engaged when it's not. Or it could be something as simple as a broken pin or one tooth of a gear on your tranny.

No way you can tell until you bring it to a shop. The issue is, this could happen again, and not return to normal. Spending  a whole lot more money than if you took care of it right now.

For those of you telling OP to check his OBD2 codes, yea, that's where to start. But it doesn't work when the check engine light is off, and OBD2 doesn't keep a history of past codes. So...That doesn't help OP at all right now.

Depends on the car most obd2 does store codes along with parameter IDs when it was thrown.

Depends on the year of vehicle/OBD2 components.
I know that codes are stored in all vehicles 2015 and newer, but when I was still in school for this in 07, OBD2 did not store yet at that time aside from a few high end manufacturers.

I have a Nissan too and I experience the stalling and shaking from time to time. My check engine lights on for Mafs been through two sensors so far. I think its a common problem among nissans at a certain mileage. I don't know what to do either, probably start looking into a different vehicle in the near future.

This can be just about anything along the lines of broken MAP/MAF sensor, oxygen/lambda sensor, clogged injectors, faulty ignition/dirty spark plugs/faulty spark leads, failing fuel pump, faulty throttle position sensor to more serious things like mechanical damage to the block or transmission.

Hook that thing up to an OBDII reader and monitor critical data such as MAP and oxygen readings and fuel trim values. Make sure to check a different revs, idle, 1500rpm, 2500rpm. Log the data for convenient analysis in eg Excel. Obviously also check any stored error codes. By far not all problems will throw errors, but often you can spot a pattern in the data.
