Dry tub?
    #25889351 -

Im trying to determine if this tub is to dry. Has great beading of water over most of the surface. But some parts , mainly the corners of the tub are showing light coloured coir. Not sure if its to dry or not. Looks healthy to me but i honestly dont know. Any input is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Why do you think its contamed?

Idk I thought it was contaminated too when I first looked at it but now I don't know. I think its just mycelium  Deffinatly bacterial along the sides tho. Btw its not dry. It looks like u will see pins soon.

The coloring along the sides it's from light brown coir.  It's drying a bit So it looks very light brown . I didn't see a few yellowish spots I thought it was metabolites . Ya it's guna pop any day now I guess we'll see what happens

You should pour a bit of water along the sides to make up for lost water ... I dont think the tub is contaminated at least nothing to worry about looks good to me

Yea? im afraid of adding more water. Althought the light coloured coir along the sides def means its drying a bit. But theres still healthy amount of water beads over the surface. How Do I avoid pooling if I pour water in?

BTW there are 2 diff strains of cubes in here ( equador and PESH) this may be why some ppl think its contamed because 2 different looking myceliums are present. One is tomantose ( like real fluffy) while the other is more rozomorphic and rope like.

I totally see why someone might think its contammed. Its looks really light colors where the coir is drying along sides and corners. But i can accurately say thats legit light brown coir thats drying under neath the mycelium.
There are a couple yellowish spots but i dont think its a huge deal.

Pictures dont really do it justice. Thanks for all the feedback everyone

You pour down the sides of the tub and bottom water it ... how big is that tub? I'd say no more then a pint of water.. then if it sucks it all up pour half of that in and see how it acts

Can you give me some specific examples of why you believe this tub isnt healthy?
Im not disagreeing with you, Im just trying to learn. If you could point out some visual examples as to why this tub has bacterial contamination that would be of great help to me.

To me this tub was looking great and I was feeling good about this one. I guess time will tell.
Thanks for the input man.

The tub is about 30L total volume. Substrate volume is 10 quarts. I followed bucket tek for substrate prep. I used 4.5 qt water. Field capacity seemed very good. I guess i can pour a bit of water down the side, the only thing is i guess ill have to peel the liner off the block of mycelium to get the water in the right spot.

Also if I see pooling water underneath the liner should I drain that out?

Is it ok to have the lid open and be working in the tub or should I always be super careful not to have lid open to much to prevent anything from getting in and growing?

No you can leave the lid off and be fine .. I dont ever use liners they are a waste of time I still got side pins when I did use them ...

If you use a smaller amount of water it shouldn't pool much and if it does you can leave it the sub will eventually drink it up when its thirsty ...

If you just pull one side of the liner away and pour slowly it should disperse on it's own. If it is really dry on those corners you can still mist the surface

This is my first try with a liner.
I had an ungodly amount of side pins on my last one so i wanted to see if the liner worked. The liner is sticking nicely to the sub and shrinking with it so there is no gap between sub and bin wall.
