Yeah, Ive found that the SGFC dries out too fast, perhaps from too much FAE.

Theres gotta be a balance somewhere between proper FAE and proper moisture levels that don't dry out too fast.

I was also considering a 50/50 blend of perlite-vermiculite. The vermiculite would act as a water reservoir while the perlite acts as a "moisture creator".

Exactly my thoughts it's the holy grail isn't it? I've even started at basic level with 2l soda bottles and varying no's of holes below and above a suspended cake in the middle. If I can crack it at this level then I believe I can scale it up to tubs.

How are you planning on the 50/50 mix? A bed of verm and then perlite or just thoroughly mixed?

Probably a full mix. Gunna try it out, see how it goes. Try to merge two concepts.
