Bush doof season is coming! * 6
    #25872903 -

For those of you who don't know what a bush doof is, it's basically a small psytrance festival held in the middle of nowhere in Australia. Sometime in the 90's some bloke moaned in the paper in the paper about the "doof doof" and it stuck. The bush doof moniker was created.

Festivals are something different, there's 1000's of people and it's all fucked up with security guards wandering around to make sure you act in a manner that is not contrary to the law, quite often police are prevalent as well. Good events if you're into that sort of thing, I guess.

A bush doof on the other hand is much smaller, maybe 200-300 people, is set up on private property and I have never seen an owner allow the police entrance even if they have rocked up and asked to be let in. By the time a 3 or 4 day doof is over you pretty much know everyone at the whole party, and if you go to a few doofs you will know plenty of people when it starts. :awesome:

There's no rules, there's no fighting, there's no litter and stuff just dumped everywhere... most people are getting around in thongs or bare feet even. The bass never stops. It goes 24 hours a day for the duration of the event. You live eat sleep and breathe the bass. There's no way to escape it. Half of the people are tripping on acid and the other half are tripping on something else. It's pretty frothy around the edges. And you better like psytrance, because that is the name of the game. You'll see all ages at these do's as well, from babies to pensioners. It's really all inclusive. It's for the people who love this subculture and their families.

Fortunately in my part of Aus it pisses rain for about half of the year so it's no good for doofs, but as the dry and the cool comes around the word gets out and all the crews have been getting ready to hold spectacular events for us local maniacs again. I just got the first heads up yesterday about one in May, the first month of the dry season, and bought my tickets. It's always good to buy tickets beforehand so the organisers have plenty of cash to get nice stuff for the party. Gate entrances don't really help much as the parties aren't run for profit, they are run in the name of the doof!

Could hardly sleep last night, thinking about doofing... ah, the fun to be had.

here's the one in May I was talking about.

For obvious reasons it doesn't say "freaking wild psy party" on the event page. If you know what it is, you know what it is.

This one does food as well, so you can pay upfront at the start and just rock up at the kitchen with your bowl and fork when you're hungry, all weekend. Takes all the pain out of this sort of camping if you don't have the gear or just too slack or mashed up to feed yourself.

It's not a closed invite, come join the party.  :awesome:

Yeah they just run in the winter, too wet and hot in the summer. No good for big sound systems even if the people would be keen.

Now THAT sounds like my kind of party. The social aspect sounds perfect too; I only go to festivals with all age groups these days and live for getting to know new people. I'm gonna have to hit you up for some dates when I finally make it back to Oz Northerner.

What state is this in?

Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not.

Before I even opened the thread this song popped into my head

I hope you have a good time for those of us who NEVER get to rave anymore

Only hope can give rise to the emotion we call despair. But it is nearly impossible for a man to try to live without hope, so I guess that leaves Man no choice but to walk around with despair as his companion.

Seems like fun. I have some Aus friends that call them duffreys.

Metamorph looks fun, Bumble is one of my favorite artists from your neck of the woods.

It seems like you guys have wholesome raves. Those are few and far between here these days in the States.

Where you at in the US? In the mountains of the PNW from May-Oct there's usually a good 15 or so small-fairly large gatherings put on by really mature crews/crowds - that's not to say they're not really intense, but it's definitely not a kiddy bopper shitshow

See if you can pick up on Audible Bicycle Day up in the mountains of the Cascades, even if there wasn't any music it's such a mindblowingly beautiful spot :awesome:

Not to mention, every single month on the full moon ... moontribes are always purely dope :awesome:

The style tends to be a progression over an event, starting with psy beats and chill psy on the first night and then moving up in tempo the whole of the next day until the headline act at midnight. Then dark and forest psy in the early hours. Then back to prog sort of stuff the next day. By then everyone is pretty toasted. Longer events tend to have a few days of live music and workshops and stuff, then end with a 2-3 day solid doof.

Looks like fun but n Brazil. :awesome:

Activists in general suck balls... vegan activists are like Jehovah's Witnesses after a major meth binge.  :crankey:

I like to get up them about their general ignorance of the actual environment rather bitching about how some of our food might feel before we eat it.
