Yeah the us would never allow a Nazi to come to the US. Give him top secret security clearance and a ticker tape parade.

The US gained a great deal technologically from Von Braun's research and expertise. He helped us put a man on the moon. Can we learn new axe strokes from ISIS members and how better to put a head in a basket?

Agreed. That has been the accepted punishment for high treason before now, and for good reason. We don't have to weaken the institution of citizenship to punish terrorists.

Defending a Nazi who killed hundreds of British citizens. No surprise there.

The right thinks citizenship only should apply to those who agree with them politically.

If egregious war crimes was enough to revoke citizenship, Elliot Abrams would be sitting in Gitmo right now instead of at the head of another imperial war machine on the border of Venezuela.

Voted STAL

am prolly the only member on this subforum who is too much of a simpleton to truly wrap my head around the ramifications of being stateless
but shiva's point about deportation of criminals makes a valid enough point
that allowing such individuals to keep their citizenship status in order to be incarcerated within a country's legal system
seems like a fair way to deal with people who left for criminal reasons

if they don't get themselves jailed in a foreign country, it is likely the obligation of their country of origin to deal with their imprisonment

He’s not wrong though. von Braun was a pioneer in rocket technology. Probably indispensable to NASA.

We probably shouldn’t have revoked her citizenship. I haven’t kept up with the case, but it seems simple. Just try her for whatever she did and be done with it.

Ms. Muthana’s father was a Yemeni diplomat, and children born in the United States to active diplomats are not bestowed birthright citizenship, since diplomats are under the jurisdiction of their home countries.

Mr. Pompeo said Ms. Muthana did not have “any legal basis, no valid U.S. passport, no right to a passport, nor any visa to travel to the United States.”

Her citizenship hasn’t been revoked. Only a court can do that.

Because it sets a bad precedent for countries to shrug responsibility of their own citizens.

Canada has deported many foreigners accused of terrorism back to their countries of origin. What if these countries started following suit, revoked citizenship, and refused their reentry? Okay, so we we got rid of the handful of Canadians committing terrorism abroad, but now we're stuck with terrorists from around the world who can't be returned to their countries of origin. The flip side of deporting terrorist foreigners from our countries, is accepting the return of our terrorist citizens from other countries.

The extreme result of a breakdown of this international convention would be foreign governments putting all the undesirable citizens they have, shipping them off to another country, revoke citizenship status, and washing their hands clean. The international convention of sovereign states holding ultimate responsibility for their citizens is an important one because it protects us just as much as a country like Syria. We should not allow it to weaken even a little.

:cookiemonster:  That makes a lot of sense.

If people have committed a crime, they should be put before a court.

Why should this be any different?
