Can you help me to identify this strange mushroom
    #25818665 -

Hi, this strange mushroom has grown on my PF TEC cake next to B+. Anyone knows what this is? Thanks for your help.

What a mutant! Something is wrong with your fruiting chamber, not enough fresh air or something.

Yes, they do. Like on a deformed Psilocybe cubensis.
This is cubensis without a doubt. Perfectly fine to eat.

Mutants and aborts are known to be more potent than normal fruit gram to gram .

I'm going to need to see proof on that one Doc.  It's the exact same material as a normal fruit, just in a different shape.  I fail to see how it would be more potent.

I'm speaking purely from 35yrs experience eating psychoactive mushrooms, my experience is anecdotal at best.

Nope, that's not how facts work.

Sorry guys, mutants are not more potent than regular cubes.

There is nothing in their makeup that would cause that.  They are just cubes that are a different shape or look weird.

We really need to stop spreading misinformation about actives.

I never said it was how facts work and that's why I said PRETTY MUCH... Also I wouldn't consider aborts "mutants," but it's own classification of mushrooms that stop growing while young. Anyways I'm looking into this now, but on mycotopia I'm checking a thread with data from studies on this using lab tested results that apperently came from here... I'll post that link until I find a more direct link to the information, but it actually seems like depending on the genetics it can be true or not. Something about aborts still producing actives after growth stops and being something not very significant, but still true. As they point out though it's better to grow big full fruits than shoot for a field of aborts.

Edit : forgot the link

https://mycotopia.net/topic/66173-does-size-really-matter/

Edit 2 : A quote from PF in the thread

"Extreme variations in potency of a given collection of magic shrooms has been reported ever scince reports have been done about these shrooms. And similarly, this report also shows the extreme variability of psilocybin content amongst the dried samples. So if one wants potent and satisfying Cubensis magic shrooms, they should be grown for potency. And that is done by harvesting them in their young stage, before sporulation begins. When that is done, even the most different appearing spore races look about the same. When the caps aren't fully expanded, all of the races look similar. The visual differences emerge when the shrooms mature, but then when they mature, they are only good for spore printing. These are weak in potency and unsatisfying for tripping. So the word of wisdom is, grow them PF style, harvest them when they are young and cool dry them with desiccant. When this is done, they are an entheogen of the highest nature"

Again pretty much fact, but I haven't looked at those lab results yet...

Edit 3: there's more to look at in that thread I'm just lazy and short on time, but while it does seem to be true it is also true that the difference isn't enough to really trip over young or mature shrooms even if PF says that one should. It's just that one should be aware of what to expect in the best/worst case scenario regarding potency. That's all.

Edit 4: I just realized that someone said mutants were more potent and that is a myth... It's based on genetics. Some mutants can be crazy potent who knows??? Maybe they will mutate and produce n'n-dmt... JK, but the truth is they can become a non active producing mutant too, which to become completely inactive is extremely unlikely they could be near inactive pretty easily.

Again, that's not how facts work.  A fact is or isn't.  It is not bolstered by opinion.

I have been talking about mutants here, the topic of this thread.  Mutants are not any more potent than a normal fruit of the same weight.  There is zero supporting evidence for that.

I'm not sure why you're linking to a whole thread about % active compounds by weight, that was never a point in this discussion.

Anecdotal reports are how we get misinformation.

We are by our nature very biased creatures, and drugs like mushrooms tend to make people very susceptible to that.

I'm also not making the claim that mutants are more potent than a "normally" formed cube.  I'm asking for any evidence for this, and this isn't the first time I've done this for this topic.  It always ends the same, no one can provide any proof that mutant mushrooms are any more potent than normal cubes.

None.

So, it's just hearsay.  Not science, not fact.
