Calci sand for Calcium carbonate

hey !
I read a post in the past that was quoting Calci sand (Reptile bedding) for a good buffer agent..
I saw some today at the pet store but i was a bit sceptical, because it's like it says a sand, it's not a powder.. Is it gonna work well for a buffering agent ? I feel a powder like Limestone (Damn hard to find around here, i don't know why..) would work better..

The calci sand is basically just pulverized oyster shells which are mined from large sea beds. It seems to me that they would work well to buffer over the long haul since thay are going to be slowly breaking down. Powdered limestone is a great buffering agent and IMO the better of the two alternatives,if you can find it.
