I'm no mycology expert, but I do know that chalk is calcium carbonate. Limestone too.

Check your local nursery for it, it will be called oyster shell. It runs about 9 bucks for a lifetime supply.

Oyster shell is commonly carried at most specialty garden stores as well as major chains. It is reccomended by Stamets that oyster shell not be used as the sole buffering agent in the casing mixture because of its low soluability in water. That is why it is good to use a combination of oyster shell and limestone flour (calcitic lime). However, I have a very hard time obtaining limestone flour. The only widely available lime is dolomitic lime which contains undesired amounts of magnesium. Limestone flour, or calcitic lime is mostly calcium carbonate in a water soluble form. Does anyone know where I can consistantly get limestone flour, or calcitic limestone (not dolomitic agricultural lime)? Is there anywhere on the net, perhaps, where I can order it and have it shipped to me? Anyone's help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
