How do you cool a monotub?
    #25780210 -

Summer fast approaching and temps around here get well above 100, indoors at worst is 88 at best 84, didnt have to many problems years ago but i run into alot of contamination during colonization later on and if the substrate heats up on its own during colonization i fear i have bad/weak spawn plus bacteria. Idk there are alot of factors.

Any way i have been wondering how i can keep one room cooler than the rest of the house mainly being its small. Has anyone tried a portable air conditioner?

What about some sort of self recirculating water pump system that has a hose under a monotub running water connected to a bucket or cooler filled with ice water? Would that act as some sort of radiator till nightfall? Lol I doubt anyone has tried this but would be interesting to hear back.

Trying not to run up the electric bill but if i have to i guess i will

Personally, I've used a A/C unit, with the window attachment during the summer time. Invest in a really good one. Buying a cheap one to find that it doesn't work out well, then having to buy a better one is pointless.

Your mushrooms will thank you later.

Your gonna have to bite the bullet and run the electric bill up a little bit.

i know little about them but Gr0wer would use a swamp cooler to lower temps

this may sound douchie but i can easily maintain the tubs at room temp because i have central ac/heat

i cool the tubs the same way i cool myself. paying the bill on time helps too:crazy2:

ah, the douche wink. On my first ever grow i was in a garage in hawaii and had to figure something out. I alternated two liter bottles in the freezer and had a wire "rack" that i rigged up in the top of my tub to hold it off the sub. Not ideal but did the trick for me. Other than that you just have to keep the room cool.

Colonized Cube substrates can handle 84-88°F no problem.
But that's hot for spawn/spawn run

I used to fruit my tubs in an attic- it would hit 100+ during the day and slip down to 50° at night. I would have to give them a misting every now and then and I got some hollow fruits but overall they did very well

If you need AC just get a window unit

Ok on the window unit i dont have a window to put it in. I might be able to jerry jig a stand where the cool air from the ac is blowing into the room on the mushies, only problem with that idea is that. Isnt direct air bad for a monotub tub?

Its like a closet style room that was built on by the landlords directly in the center of house.

Electric bill normally runs 180-200 without tubs, with tubs it was like 340-380 running the ac so much.

I figured if you can incubate them with heat why not try similar method to cool

Gonna build small shallow box for tubs to sit in, snake a garden hose around the tubs and create as much surface area as possible, add maybe 1.5" of water over the hose, run the remaining hose into a cooler filled with salty ice water and have maybe 6-10 feet coiled up to give the hose a chance to cool off before cycling out, then connect pump and just cycle the water like a radiator,

It will be cheap plus if it doesn't work I always have ac as backup

Sounds like you might need to move. Sorry, but growing in a room that is 88 is not advisable. Plus that place sounds terrible. Either get better AC or find another place to grow.

Very similar. They just require a bit more fae and they love heat. Look around, there's TONS of pan grows in monotubs and sgfc's

I grew all summer and my space was over 100 most days during the summer. (Attic) everything was fine. U just don't want colonizing jars to sit in that high temp cuz of bacteria and such. Once it's colonized, the heat is fine. Atleast in my experience.

How hot is Florida? 90 to 100 all summer.  That's the climate cubes come from. They don't mind heat if it's clean and healthy.

Yea one summer I left town for a week and my AC kicked off. It was in the 90's outside, who knows inside, and all my spawn went bacterial.

Fruiting in heat is fine. Might get hollow fruits is all. Colonizing spawn + Spawn run is a no no.

There are air conditioners that sit in a room instead of a window, but you need to run a duct outside I think

This is making sense on how and why my last grows went bad, waiting to order new syringes an prepping for anything coming up, i always wondered how and why I suddenly got bacteria during the summer

Mushrooms grow just fine sitting in full sun in cow pastures in Texas during the summer.  They should be able to colonize/fruit in temps that range from 105-110 F since that’s the environment they evolved in.

Lol well since they take days to mature they actually grow day and night.
