Should I even bother with LC?
    #25733939 -

I have been focused on using agar and learning about agar and different teks. Would there be any benefits to me learning /using LC or making spore syringe from prints?

Also how exactly is LC used to inoculate? Pouring or loading into a syringe? And dropped in spawn?

From what I've learned about it, LC carries a few key benefits

1) You can easily expand the number of jars/bags you can inoculate using OF
2) jars nocced with LC colonize faster than jars nocced with ME or what and are easier to mix, 100℅ colonization for quart jars being cut down to about 5 days on average and sometimes 2 days depending on how much LC is used
3) some people pour, some people use a syringe, as long as your methods are sterile the effect is the same, I'm planning on using a syringe because I just find it easier than trying to pour when the size of my SAB is taken into account.

This is just from what I've read, I currently have 3 LC jars I nocced up last night working,so we'll see how that goes. There's a great write up on LC cultures in this forum, let me grab the link for it really quickly.

This post starts with an explanation on the benefits of Liquid Culture, though I myself prefer trusting a SAB over SHIPs from previous experience

My experience with LC is that my grow without LC was 1 out of 12 jars succeeded. Granted some of my issue was in my steps that I corrected. I inoculated with LC and 24/24 jars colonized within a week. All in the FC right this second and I'm waiting for pins.

You'll get mixed answers on LC. I've heard some tell me never use it and others swear by it and then also guys like me that just tell you my only experience.

In regards to any benefit in making your own syringes from prints.

If you're about to get into agar you dont have to make syringes from your prints, just drop spores onto agar with an inoculation loop etc. I have found that I get faster germination from my spore solutions on agar than I do with straight spores though. Think this is due to the spores re-hydrating before they hit the agar possibly?

Making your own syringes could really stretch a print out. Like wayyyyy out. I made 200ml spore solutions from half prints and the syringes from those have noticeable quantities of spores.

I personally like LC for speed of growth, Caps soft Agar works very similarly.

Talking about the cakes?

I've only grown cakes once and that was back when the PS1 was still new hahaha

Think I'd....uh... I'd flip it. No scientific reason as to why besides I want my boomers on top.

A great friend of mine, we called him Cool Guy(R.I.P.) brought me over a few pint jars, pf style, fully colonized. All I did was build the little 10 gal aquarium fc like my friend told me to. Misted and sprayed and BAM BOOMERS!!

That's my 1st growing experience. "Kinda" cheating haha

If you have questions about how to use LC you're not ready for it. By the time you are proficient enough to do LC you'll be able to look up how to use LC, its risk and rewards.

I recommend sticking with agar and noccing up master jars with wedges. I used to use LC quite a bit and rarely use it anymore these days. You can still expand a culture pretty far with plates and make more spawn than you can use.

Don’t mess with LC. I tried doing it after i got pretty good with grain teks but i had constant contams. If the LC actually grew (with only like 20% of mine doing so), you still have no idea if it’s contaminated. Mycelium could look completely fine and go on to ruin a monotub. After nocing up about 50 jars i only had 2 that were completely contam free. The other 48 were wasted money, time, and hopes of cost efficient cultures that would make 1 spore syringe noc up 100s of bags. I’ve given up on it. Agar and SAB are the way to go because instead of waiting 25 days before you take a sample of the LC and then another 5 before a grain culture actually shows whether the LC is clean is a helluva lot longer than the 3 days for agar to show contams.
