Quick agar question

Hello all, might try making agar for the first time today but I am wondering, how many times do I have to PC? Is it okay to just PC my playes after I have made my agar and poured them? Or should I always PC the plates and agar and the pour inside a SAB? Also can potato water be a substitute for distilled water or can tap water work for making agar?

Plastic petris will melt in the pc... you can do no pour agar where you pour and then PC, but need proper containers... to pour petris, PC once after mixing at 15psi for 30 minutes, and pour in a SAB... let them cool and wrap them if you're not using them immediately... tap water works fine, you're sterilizing it... need to search, find a tek, and get an idea of what you're doing before you get started... what type of dishes are you using?

Okay I do have an idea of what I would like to do since I have many jars, but I also have a few pasty plates and needed confirmation. Can I also wipe the red hot xacto knife onto a sanitizer wipe? Saw some people do alcohol wipes but this is the best I can do I think. also are you saying plastic petris can't be used at all or they can be PCd if they have the agar in them?

Wiping your red hot exact knife on an alcohol pad defeats the purpose. Once it touches that pad it is no longer sterile. Alcohol does not sterilize. Getting it red hot does.

Flaming sterilizes, sanitizer wipes only sanitize... it'd be like showering and then wiping shit on your face... slice the receiving plate or just hold the scalpel in the SAB for 10 seconds before use to cool

Plastic petris will melt in the PC, you have to pc the agar in a vessel and pour them in a SAB...

Man... search function... plastic petris are not pp5... pp5 will survive the heat,  pasty plate containers are pp5... I prefer pouring; less condensation and makes me feel like a scientist

thanks, so can I still PC glad mini rounds? and would honey work for agar or pure cane sugar granules work better?

Search function... mini rounds are the container of choice... honey and sugar rarely turn out well... especially in no pours
