Button Mushroom compost's base
    #25715895 -

Hi friends ..

what should be the base material for button mushroom compost for me because rice and wheat straw is very expensive here .. and horse poo is also not available ..

is it possible to make compost from grass?.. because grass is what a horse eats and i have heard people growing buttons on horse poo. what if i add some nitrogen ingredients to the grass and compost it?

can buttons be grown on some other agriculture wastes other than rice and wheat straw?

Hi,
greetings to the Himalayas?
Agaricus spp. need celloluse rich compost, so gras, leaves, vegetables should be fine.
Not sure about wood.
I read that European mushroom growers use only chicken poo and straw as base for compost.
So you seem to be free to experiment with various nitrogen sources (poo from herbivore) combined with cellulose from any kind of plant material.
However composting is an art you will have to adapt to the used material.
I have no place for a compost heap, so i plan to experiment with compost from the DIY market supplemented with urea and straw.
(I am too proud to buy ready to use substrate from a mushroom farm)
