Does this mean harvest time? (one hole in veil)

Sorry this pic isn't better, but one of my mushrooms has a hole in its veil. I was expecting to drop the veil once they're ready for harvest? Or does this indicate some kind of problem...

They are fine. Personally I wait till the veils drop completely but realy it’s just preference. People like to pick befor the veils open because after they open they drop spores everywhere

Like he said its a preference thing. I personally like to wait until most of the veils have opened. I think they're so pretty then :laugh:

I prefer them just before the veil breaks: they seem a bit more potent by weight

Few hours later the hole was a lot bigger so I decided to pick a few that were ahead of the others. 56 grams so far. I think there's probably another 56 or so grams on the cake left to pick tomorrow.

Drying with the fan as I still have to order a food dehydrator.

Yes, this is my first try. I bought a grow kit online but had some problems with it. After more misting and FAE it started getting a bit better. This morning i could harvest the rest of the cake as you can see below.

The cake is now submerged in water for 12 hours, getting ready for it's second flight.

I'll be getting some stuff for the PF tek method this week so I can really learn more about cultivatingthese magical and interesting guys :smile:

How do you plan to grow? Grow kit?

They look great! We were on that path before but then, as we are perfectionists, we realized that doing a grow kit the right way, with heat mat, fae, lighting etc. We better go for bulk the first time. We plan to start with growbags with rye, with an injection port to reduce risk of contams, then incubate @ 28 Celcius. Break up when fully colonized and mix with straw and rye substrate, case with vermiculite and then use a tub in tub tek @ 23 Celcius with a 12/12 light cycle

Also I plan on injecting a liquid culture with the first one or two cc of spores and see how that works out with a living culture injected in the rye for the second run

Yes, I got everything I know from this and other forums. First we need to get all rhe gear. May take some more time but I plan on keeping regular posts
