You’d think people would have thicker skins with the way they posts on these boards.  It’s hilarious to me how cyber bulliesbabies love to dish out veiled insults and antogonisms but cry when others employ their tactics on them.  Then they leave whiny ratings and try to get people banned. :rofl2:

Because there isn’t a market for those cars if there aren’t imposed fuel standards that require more fuel efficient cars.

GM retooled that plant to make electric vehicles for American and Chinese markets but they will see the electric car market dry up and its easier to make them in China due to the tariffs

I take it that these cars are much more expensive than their counterparts?

Otherwise, anybody would buy a fuel efficient car.

If they can make their cars affordable, then people will buy them.

I always buy fuel efficient cars. Little economy cars.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.autoblog.com/amp/2018/11/27/gm-cuts-restructuring-5-reasons-why/

Quote:
The restructuring also reflects changing North American auto markets as manufacturers continue to shift away from cars toward SUVs and trucks. In October, almost 65 percent of new vehicles sold in the U.S. were trucks or SUVs. That figure was about 50 percent cars just five years ago.

GM is shedding cars largely because it doesn't make money on them, Citi analyst Itay Michaeli wrote in a note to investors.

"We estimate sedans operate at a significant loss, hence the need for classic restructuring," he wrote.

The reduction includes about 8,000 white-collar employees, or 15 percent of GM's North American white-collar workforce. Some will take buyouts while others will be laid off.

At the factories, around 3,300 blue-collar workers could lose jobs in the U.S. and another 2,600 in Canada — but some U.S. workers could transfer to truck or SUV factories that are increasing production.

Trade war

The GM layoffs come amid the backdrop of a trade wars between the U.S., China and Europe that likely will lead to higher prices for imported vehicles and those exported from the U.S. Barra said the company faces challenges from tariffs but she did not directly link the layoffs to them.

President Trump on Monday rejected the idea that tariffs he imposed on steel and aluminum used by automakers, or tariffs he erected against China and those with which China has retaliated, played a role in GM's decision. China is a crucial market for automakers. GM has said the tariffs have cost it $1 billion. That's in relation to $6 billion in costs GM is trying to save in the restructuring.

I wonder why people don't like cars?

I admit, I like a truck to move things in, but a small economy car is so good on gas. And studded tires in the winter take them anywhere.

I'm a bit of a petrolhead myself.

American's are idiots in their vehicle preferences. Everybody buys a truck for the utility and then never uses any of it. It's a great feature twice a year, the rest of the time it's a shit vehicle. Pickups are absolute shit in the snow, they don't stop as well as cars in any condition, they generally have greater maintenance costs, they are less comfortable, less safe. The list goes on and on. Yet here we are.

The other day I drove by the local preschool and the parents were lined up in their range rovers and suburbans waiting for the kids. I swear there wasn’t a single car.

GoFundMe campaign to buy 'ladders’ created to counter one for Trump’s border wall - 12/20/18 07:26 PM

A new GoFundMe campaign to buy "ladders to get over Trump's wall" was created on Thursday in response to
one that has raised over $5 million in pledged donations for President Trump’s long-desired border wall.

Charlotte Clymer, an Army veteran and communications specialist for the Human Rights Campaign, created the fundraiser on Thursday.

The crowd-sourcing effort raised more than $35,000 from more than 1,490 donors as of Thursday evening.

Clymer told Business Insider that she was “stunned” when she heard about the campaign to raise money for Trump’s proposed wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

"More than being angry, I was sad at the blatant racism of donating money to a wall that will not be built, a wall that won't work,” Clymer said.

While the GoFundMe page jokes about using the money to buy ladders, Clymer’s campaign makes clear it intends to actually use the funds for the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES).

The immigrants walk hundreds of miles through treacherous desert risking their lives yet some people think they'll just give up if they have to cross a wall. That's just the poor ones crossing the border, we're not even talking the gangs and drug traffickers who have means, ingenuity, and plenty of drive. The whole idea is so absurd.
