Hola amigos!

Even though I've been a spectator for quite some time, this will serve as my maiden post on this site :smile:

I will soon endeavour to spread the genes of Psilocybe Azurescens of which will also be my first outdoor grow!

But!.. In my attempt of doing this fungi justice, I have some confusion regarding the name, that I first, would like to have sorted out :wink:

I believe I have seen this mushroom been called all the names as follows:
1) Psilocybe Azurescens
2) Psi. Azurescens Astoria Ossip
3) Psi. Cyanescens Astoria Ossip
4) Psi. A. Elixier / Hammond

From my understanding, all these mushrooms are one and the same, only from different locations within the state of Oregon. But is this true?

Regarding #3: there is no such thing as a "Cyan. Astoria Ossip", it was only named that as a mistake?
I'm also having a hard time deciphering the "Astoria Ossip" part. Google tells me that Astoria is a location in Oregon, but I can't seem to find anything about "Ossip"?

Furthermore, I would like to know what I should put into my blend for substrate. Almost every outdoor grow log I've been reading, it suggests only using wood debris from deciduous trees, but from what I understand, it is likely to be found in the wild in sandy soils and "has an affinity for coastal dune grasses."
[From mushrooms.com/psilocybe-azurescens] The sea grass is high in tryptamine which psilcocybe mushrooms convert to psilocybin. This is one reason why species that grow on clumps of grass like the psilocybe semilanceata’s are always highly active.

So, wouldn't it make sense to throw some sand in there together with this type of grass, or will this make absolutely no difference at all?
I've heard that Psilocybe semilanceata attaches itself to the grass roots and lives in symbioses with it; will the case be the same with azzies?
Seaweed (the plant-like algae) is high in tryptophan, would that be good nourishment for the patch, and if so, should I be concerned about the salt content?

As everyone else on the interwebs not native to the english language, I must apologize for any misspelled word, or sentences that makes no sense :rolleyes:

Azurescens form a mycorrhizal network with plants.

Just sow some grass into the wood chips it will hold moisture and give them aces to grow.

I’ve heard azurescens called ‘Astoria blues’ And picked many confirmed azzies. There is a definite difference between azz and cyes, but from my experience I have not observed any species variation in picking. I would guess it takes some real specific mycology studying to differentiate kinds of wood lovers within the same species. But I’m sure there might be subgroups like there are with cubes?

Wild patches have high genetic diversity. When you take a culture you are taking just a portion of the genetics, you are straining it from the gene pool. That's all a strain is, and through selective breeding you can isolate and bring out certain desirable morphology and charecteristics. The only reason we have a bunch of "strains" of cubensis is because people have cultured and domesticated it a bunch.
