mold question

kind of a random question, wasnt sure weather to put it here or in cultivation but i figured here more people may have experience.

so i picked a few mushrooms and clipped off the few stem butts i had. i threw them back into the plastic bag, well i forgot about them but only for like a day.

picked them in the morning and just remembered them the next morning. so i went to check on them to make sure they wernt all dried out and they wernt. looked like they were starting to tho.

one of them had a distinct white fuzziness to it. so my question is, in such a short amount of time. can they become moldy? or do you think this was the stembutt throwing out mycelium?

ive never had mushrooms get moldy before, i did not notice any foul smells either. the one time i placed mushroom in a plastic bag when they wernt 100% dry evidently, they were in there a couple of days and none of them developed any visible mold but they did however have a more funky smell to them then some of my others that have been dried properly. so i took them out and dried them more and the smell went away.

im just shocked that the stembutts could have developed mold in such a short time and it was only the 1. this makes me think its perhaps mycelium and maybe the shroom it came from just has more vigorous growth. but still just a day seems pretty quick to show signs of anything at all.

just wondering what you fellow hunters have seen when trying to spawn stem butts from wils specimens you have collected.

these were from cinctulus collected from grass

Sounds like it's reverting to mycelium.

I agree with Alan,  get them back into some woodshavings or between moist cardboard until you can get them back into some woodshavings/chips.

cool sounds exciting, already got it in some cardboard. it was quite vigorous looking compared to the other ones but was also the largest stem butt. real cool for cinctulus!

thanks for the help yet again. i had about 4 stem butts only one of the was fuzzy white when i put them in the cardboard. i might just take them all out except the fuzzy one. they each have their own square of cardboard.

i had no idea cinct would work on wood chips either. ima have to GET ON THAT right away lol.
