Can I do something with this?
    #25632458 -

Hey fellow shroomery members, I’ve been a member for 10+ years, however I don’t remember my old username so I’ve had to create a new account. When I was around on my old account, I wasn’t into the cultivation of mushrooms. Rather, I was more active posting about various experiences, conversing with fellow shroomery members about various aspects of psychedelics and so forth.

However I’ve kind of had the prospect of cultivation thrust upon me. The short of it is, a friend of mine ordered a mushroom grow kit. He obviously planned on using it, however he recently found out that his work was going to be taking him across the country for a month or so, and that meant he wouldn’t be able to use the kit. He didn’t want the kit to go to waste, so he approached me and asked me if I would take it and attempt to cultivate the mushrooms myself, as I am the only person he knows that is interested and experienced with mushrooms and other psychedelics( Just not experiences with cultivating.) I said I’d give it a shot and took the kit from him.

I’ve done some reading so I can try to familiarize myself with growing mushrooms, and I’ve found that apparently, kits can be very hit and miss and that almost every experienced grower says to purchase the components on their own and do the research and work. So I figured that before I even attempt to follow the little instruction booklet that came in this kit, I would post some pictures of the instructions and kit components.

I believe that this kit uses the rye berry instead of the BRF and Vermiculite. The burlap sack contains straw with lime I think? The other bag has vermiculite and a soul brick. Anyhow, I want to see if you guys think that the instructions and components are adequate and legitimate, or if I should go out and get some different components myself. What do you guys think?

Wow.  A kit with mycelium.

Might as well give it a go.  I wouldn't case though.  I wouldn't use the straw either, Id use coir cakes because it contaminates less often, in a shoebox, removed from shoebox and put in transparent tote once it pins.

As for looking like a bag of bac, I've never seen white chunky bacteria before.  I always associate slime and yellow liquid with bacteria.

Wow they are making you pasteurized your own straw? That's kinda messed up. Pasteurization can be one of the trickier things to get right and that method they give you is really outdated.

Personally I think you should just follow the directions in the kit. If you really want to improve your chances I would Aldo nix the straw and get a brick of coir and hydrate it with hot water.

But that won't necessarily improve your chances since you don't have any previous experience to build off of. Stuff can still go wrong.

So with the coir, do I basically just replace the straw with coir and follow the same directions?

I would just use the spawn to do a monotub. If they give you coir and verm then use that. I'm guessing that's what you meant by a "soul brick." I'd not use the straw your first time. Links to how to do it all are in my signature.

If you use coir, the prep is a bit different from straw.  It's a lot easier and less particular.

Basically, it's 650ml water for every 100g coir, bought to a boil, then add coir and mix.  Keep it hot for awhile to let it cook.

It doesn't look contaminated to me, just way overcolonised.

It looks unusually thick.

Maybe it's just really vigorous, maybe it's nothing, maybe it's mycogone or something.

I can't tell from the pic.

Looks like mycelium to me. Definitely really thick but I dunno that it looks bad.

Moar pics of your bag?

If you wanted to use coir you could grab a brick and then use bod's variation of the coir bucket tek to prep it

Smell it, it should smell mega mushroomy if it's fine but it still might not recover if you spawn it.

Either way, OP got some free shit and doesn't seem that interested to continue. I'd try it. It's that or throw it away.

Thank you guys for the feedback. So I have smelled it and it does smell very mushroomy. It is one quart of spawn. I have a 650g brick of coir and vermiculite. I also have either a cardboard box with a large plastic done lid that is transparent, and I also have a 12 quart transparent tote.

I’m reading up on the various teks. Is the monotube or “mini”tube the best option? I’m going to work on the coir now. Once done, I am supposed to mix the coir, Vern and spawn together, and then stick it away somewhere dark to allow it to colonize and then once fully colonized (If I even get there) I switch it to a transparent chamber with a 12/12 light schedule?
