It doesn't take a genius to figure out that there's a correlation.

There's been 265 here this year alone.

However I put that there because you have people in every one of these debates that say 'gun control wouldn't work man'.

Yes, it would. It's almost certainly not gonna happen here, but that's a different matter entirely. It absolutely works though.

That's like waterproofing a basement works before the walls are wet. But if its in the middle of a flood you can't slather on drylock and hope it's going to work.
Gun control in this sea of guns country absolutely won't work. Especially now that we can manufacturer guns at home

I am a gun owning hunter that fully believes in gun control.  I use guns and carry as an every day part of my life, it's how we eat.

I also have PTSD and don't go around shooting people up or even thinking about it.  I'm getting real fucking tired of the Vet excuse.

I'm all for getting rid of guns, but I know prohibition doesn't work for anything. So despite my best intentions, I am not in favor of gun control.

And honestly, I was in Las Vegas during the shooting. I wasn't at Mandalay Bay while it happened but I was driving right by it like a half hour before the shooting started. When you go there and you see what happened, you realize that even if we were allowed to carry inside the venue, no hand gun would have stopped what happened. No shot gun or .22 caliber rifle would have stopped what was going on. Maybe in 1950 saying a hand gun for personal protection is all you need, but in this day in age its' not. With military surplus trickling down into the civilian population, I want to know that I will be the best armed person out there. I don't want to have to rely on police response time and coordination while my home is under attack. That is why I am trying to aquire tactical, battlefield nuclear weapons. Maybe a Davy Crockett if I can get my hands on one. It is the only way I will feel safe. I can't sleep at night unless I know I have access to nuclear weapons.

A lot of 'dudes' wouldn't admit they have insecurities and will instead overcompensate for them in a myriad of ways; guns being one of them.

He clearly needs assault rifles. You know, for protection and stuff.

Okay, I'm open to you being potentially right with supporting evidence but that figure is ridiculous. England has small borders, Australia is such a remote and highly controlled island it was once essentially a prison for the British, Canada is buffered from the heart of illicit gun trade in north america by the US. To my knowledge, unlike those countries, US has a higher demand for guns in our culture. Remember, the second amendment is.... the second amendment. Not the 40th amendment. If that gives you any clue as to how much we value our guns. It's the next most important thing to free speech basically. And this is where context becomes important. The US is NOT any of those countries for more reasons than I can possibly note. While there is useful information to gain from those types of studies they do not directly correlate to the matter of US gun laws which exist in an entirely different cultural, geographic, and socioeconomic context. Again, I can't prove that you're wrong. But this figure does not indicate any sort of broad reality. This is essentially like comparing a rodent study with a human study. Useful, but far from definitive.

Doesn't really worry me too much. It would be hard to fire all those at the same time. It's really no worse than having one assault rifle, which takes two hands to wield

May I point out that in lieu of owning a firearm for self protection, maybe invest in some bullet resistant clothing. That is if you live in paralyzing fear that you will be gunned down on your way to the grocery. :shrug:

I'd have to agree with this.  I've grown up with guns and other weapons.  Have always had them around and most likely always will.  They're another tool in the household.

Again, I refer everyone to the fact that America already has a black market gun trade and obtaining illegal weapons is not that hard. The question really is, how many will be tempted to utilize such resources if legal avenues are overly-restricted. There is a really fine balance there to strike as far as gun control goes.

Yeah, there is definitely area for improvement. I'm not arguing against that. Only that prohibition = loss of control, not more control. It's all about striking that balance of satisfying demand and making it hassle free enough that people utilize the legal system while also keeping tabs on the flow of weapons and filtering out risky buyers. Nothing will "fix" the problem.
