PNW oyster look alike ID request * 1

Was out looking for oysters and found these. Seem similar to me, the biggest difference I'm seeing is these don't have the decurrent gills that the oysters do.






Habitat: All found growing on a live maple tree right on the edge of a stream



Gill: white, with a sinuate(correct me if I'm wrong I am still a noob with terminology) attachment to stem



Stem: white, about 2cm wide 3in long

Cap: off white/tan with a faint marbled patterning, about the size of my hand fully stretched out

Spore print:white

There's only one Hypsizygus species on the west coast - compare to Hypsizygus tessellatus  - but make sure you find photos of wild ones... these are also cultivated as beech mushrooms, so you'll find a lot of photos of perfect clusters of little mushrooms and think that yours cannot possibly be those..

I'm most familiar with the species found in the Pacific Northwest - those found in other parts of the world may vary considerably, so always do your own research to find out what grows in your area and what lookalikes you need to be aware of. Understand that many mushroom species cannot be 100% reliably identified by photographs alone, even by an expert, so it may not be possible to go beyond suggesting a probable genus.

Thank you both for the response! Looking at pictures, it does look very similar to Hypsizygus Tesselatus. Considering that Hypsizygus Tesselatus is edible, I am wondering if this identification is confident enough for me to pick a sample for tasting next time I pass by this spot?
