Is this thick white growth on mycelium ok? * 1

It's been 20 days since I inoculated and today I noticed this thick white growth on the mycelium. As a novice I was wondering if this is normal like the beginning of pinning.

That's not good. It's not fully colonized yet.

Is it from something I've done. The chamber has been at a constant 77°f. The humidity has been between 33-60℅. Or does this just happen some times. Could I reduce the temperature to help slow growth rate?

Probly just a lil bacterial infection or something. Dont beat urself up, its common for beginners.

If the pin gets too big and u wanna save tge cake, birth it and rinse off any uncolonized brf. Then dunk/roll and put in ur fc.

Nah it doesn't "just happen" that's bad info and gives people the idea that inadequate procedure will produce impressive results. No disrespect just need to be careful what we share here as the novice is impressionable until he/she learns from their own experiences. Those jars are likely bacterial, that's why they've pinned before fully colonizing. When properly hydrated and sterilized your jars would be ready in half that time. The error would be in your grain prep, likely not sterilized long enough. You probably soaked your grains ya?

Well thats a cake. And when i said it happens, i specified especially for new people. Its very rare a first time grower could pull off a grow without some bacteria. I didnt mean that its "ok" because i said it happens.

Dont wanna confuse noobs. I just hate when someone tells a noob to throw something out cuz of bacteria. They will learn thru experience, but for a first grow people just wanna make it to fruiting. So sometimes i advise to remove bacterial areas so they dont get discoraged and keep working at

Abd it might just be packed too hard in that spot. Did u leave the verm loose or pack it down when u made the jars?

Shouldn’t you take the tinfoil off the top to provide gas exchange? I’m new and on my 2nd grow but I’m sure you’re supposed to. Both of my grows I removed the tinfoil and micropore tape and just let the dry verm layer do it’s thing. My jars colonized in 60-65f in 3 weeks. Maybe take the tinfoil off and let it finish up?

Im pretty sure thats a brf pint jar, not grains. Also some spores take up to a month to germinate, regardless of conditions. :shrug:

You can leave it on without doing any harm, there's just no real reason to though

Op didn't specify when germination happened, and I mistook what uncolonized spots I can see as grain. The original time I looked my brightness was down. Also, I never said to toss anything. I began investigation of how op got to this point. I never toss my bacterials, they're still worth a flush or two. Nube you have a good hypothesis as the uncolonized spots are at the bottom which is where the most compression would be from packing.

At the worst you have stalled 90% colonized cakes, which luckily you can remove the unfinished bits if they completely stop. I personally would skip consolidation week if they slow to that point, and just birth, clean, dunk n roll and fruit it.

It took me about 5 days after inoculation to see any growth on my jars.  At about 10 days in I tossed 2 jars with bright orange growth in them and isolated the remaining jars for 24 hours to make sure they werent contaminated as well.  To be honest with you this is my first time grow shotgunning it with preloaded and sterile jars, I bought my spores and built my chambers used flame sterilization for my syringe. which admittedly once o get a better feel for it I wanna get actual environme HBnts for them. Anyways I have another picture on another jar I've noticed

I haven't noticed any difference in growth rate with the ones I have removed the foil on. I've opened my chamber and foil once a week to gas exchange

I'd like to thank everyone for their input as well this sight as been very helpful through out this. I was wondering if it's not bacterial like some of you think could it be tomentose mycelium or just dense rhizomorphic mycelium

Why not make some lids via a tek? Exposing the contents of your jars to open air is never a good idea, regardless of dry verm layer or not. The dry layer is not a sufficient filter.

I was going to give them until Friday this week and if nothing has changed birth, dunk, roll, fruit them but only the ones that are 90% or more

Next grow I fully intend to use one of the teks. when I take them out I put my mask on gloves use a peroxide spray in the air to help kill spores and I use a oust as well whether or not that helps idk there's a lot to learn doing this as I am finding out
