Golden teacher cultivation question.
    #25513676 -

Hello there everyone, I am new to the mushroom cultivation, and I tried making a colony 5 days ago, but cannot seem to know if there's mycelium growth or not.

I used the follow technique;
-I used Sawdust instead of vermiculite, mixed 2 parts of it with one part water - then I added one part brown rice, it wasn't fully grounded, had bits of whole and bit flourish, and then added a layer of dry sawdust as contamination barrier
O then added the substrate in a plastic container and in boiling water for an hour and half, let it cool down and inject 10CC of spore solution into it, had 4 holes - 2.5 cc in each. Couldn't find a lid for the plastic jar so I replaced it with multiple layers of foil.

Day one:

5 days later; is that showing growth, did I mistake something?

:whathesaid:

You can't expect to adlib parts of this and get good results, its like changing a cooking recipe and still expecting it to taste the same, its like it is for a good reason:thumbup:

I feel like random answers.
I've seen multiple people working with whole brown rice and saw dust and ir worked with them.
There are hundred of teks, and the spores did not go anywhere, they're in the substrate.. What is going to hold them back from forming mycelium?
It's all similar to the PFtek, I only replaced vermiculite with sawdust and didn't grind the rice completely.

I agree with investing in better materials, but also.. I think I do see mycelium in that second picture and it takes a few days sometimes.
Still, next time upgrade and show how much better it is than last time

Cubensis aren't a wood growing mushroom. Read teks that are tried and tested, it'll save you having to post asking why shits not working.

It's normal to see nothing in 5 days even with an optimal jar and optimal substrate. It's common for people to see a whole bunch after 5 days already too though.

If this works good for you, but if you are new or are relatively inexperienced then just choose and  follow a tek.  Plenty of work has been done and many errors have already been made that you don't need to repeat.  They're the weeds of fungus so it might work but I wouldn't be surprised if it contaminates.

Lul. Man, why bother asking then? Dont use sawdust! Don't use foil for lids. Don't be a know it all who know's nothing.

Your mistake was not following the appropriate tek. 5 days is not long enough even if you got it right. 10 cc is way too much and would def contaminate even if everything else was perfect. Take some advice and search "pf tek".

What will "hold the spores back" is contamination from bacteria, and god knows what else is in there, probably some trich.

If mycotopia is so good, why are you here asking for help?

Guys for the sake of anything, I am not here to fight. My question was simple:
Is that showing growth? I don't know if that being whiter means mycelium growth.
I cannot find vermiculite anywhere in where I live, had to replace it with sawdust when I saw posts saying that it worked, I am just frustrated.
However, I wish things turn out fine.

No. The odds of you growing cube myc in there are slim to none. You have no barrier to contamination, and by injecting 10cc of spore solution (which are almost certain to contain bacteria and other environmental contaminants) you have created the perfect environment to grow everything other than cubensis. 10cc even when sterile will throw off your moisture content.

5 days is not long enough to see growth.
If you don't have verm then why bother with brf? Just do some reading and use grains, use vtek, anything. Adapt and overcome. At very least use proper jars with lids.

Do people just do no reading or research and just do shit?

It's natural to get all fired up and dive in head first, I suppose. I've done dumb shit, everyone does when we think we're mad scientists making magic potions in our basements, however it's important to read the recipe book before you start.

I'm not a pro, not even close, but I know that this approach is suboptimal and is destined to not work.

I can find really shitty instructions for all sorts of things on the internet. What part of a 5 year old thread with no one posting their success using the same method sounds like it's actually good? Heck the person who posted it doesn't even have results pictures. They teach these researching skills in grade school. The internet is full of garbage... You have to be able to weed it out. This one is exceptionally garbage.

Start over and grind your rice to flour and use verm because cubes don't eat sawdust.

I don't see any growth in your jars.
The foil is still on the lids too.

The foil ARE the lids.

While people have done it its so bootleg I would strongly suggest not using jars without lids.
