Powell warns Kennedy
    #2533301 - 04/07/04 12:06 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Colin Powell warns Senator Ted Kennedy to watch his words about the (undeclared) war in Iraq. "Stop yer whining and just sit back and watch our boys bleed." Colin demanded. "You know that one more outbreak like that and we can imprison you under Patriot Act III you Muslim sympathizer! You are just pissed off that you didn't get in the great oil deal that most of D.C. got in on."

He's kidding about the phrasing, but Powell did warn Kennedy about questioning the president.

I ad-libbed after the first line.

But why should a public spokesmen be warned for saying what many of us think? Is it now treasonous to question our Commander-In-Chief's decisions that affect the future of our country for the next generationor more? Guess I missed the formal dismemberment of the Bill Of Rights.

It's called the Patriot Act, traitor! I'm afraid I'm gonna have to arrest you now and hold you without charges, in case you might be a terrorist.

What do you mean by "warned".

Did he actually threaten him, or did he just use his first ammendment rights as an American citizen to point out to him that his words may have undesirable consequences that may affect the safety of our soldiers in the middle east, and cause the war to drag out even longer costing even more lives?

Very astute B_H.

Washington-AP -- Secretary of State Colin Powell is cautioning Senator Ted Kennedy to be more careful in criticizing the war in Iraq.

Powell was referring to the Massachusetts Democrat calling the conflict "George Bush's Vietnam."

Powell -- on Fox News Radio's Tony Snow Show -- said Kennedy "should be a little more restrained and careful in his comments because we are at war."

Powell said debating the Iraq war was appropriate, but that everyone should rally behind the war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Kennedy spokesman David Smith says the senator "has an enormous amount of respect" for Powell and understands why Powell "feels the need to defend the president's policies."

... or did he just use his first ammendment rights as an American citizen to point out to him that his words may have undesirable consequences that may affect the safety of our soldiers in the middle east...

The Iraqi insurgents did not kill any soldiers up to this point, but because they all hang on Ted Kennedy's words will now start killing US soldiers indiscriminately.

Random Iraqi #1: Did you hear what Kennedy said?

Random Iraqi #2: Yeah, he practically gave us Carte Blanche. Let's go!

Random Iraqi #3: And he forgot to wear his flag lapel pin. That is the sign to attack.

Yeah, you're right stuff like that will probably only cost a few more lives. Nothing to get worked up over I guess.

If Ted "the Great Pumpkin" Kennedy were actually voicing genuine concerns about the war, that would be one thing, but his words were strictly pollitically motivated. When this war turns into a pollitical war instead of a military war THAT is when it will become "another Vietnam".

It already IS another Viet Nam. Who gets the full credit for putting our boys in harm's way? Would that be Kennedy?

Yes folks, let's all support our troops:

"Corporal Williams you fell bravely and barely whimpered as your life slipped away knowing you would never see your first child. We applaud you for laying down your most precious possession so that we may have lower oil prices. I need to take the family to Disneyland this summer."

whether you agree with the war or the president,
we have brothers and sisters over there right now
that need to know that the rest of us back here in
the US support them.

it's kennedy's right to speak out like this, it's powell's
right to reprimand him, but there's a better way to
critique than to give soldiers the impression that they
are doomed and no one cares.

2.25 here...

I support their right to live out a full life. I do not support their actions. Does that mean to not speak out publicly and watch more Fox News? If I stop all "negative" posting here and wear a flag pin will they sleep more easily at night? Will the terror of having to kill another human being be lessened?

Please explain exactly what you mean by "support our troops"?
