Just found out, even if my jars are ready by the end of this week, I may not be able to spawn till the following week as I need to go away for a few days. Will this be a problem or will my jars be okay for an extra week till I get back and am able to spawn?

They should be ok...I've let jars go an extra week before and didn't have a problem. If at all possible find a cold area of your house, like a basement, and store them there. The colder temps will help stall them a little, but honestly I think you'll be fine for a week.

I will say that you are seeing some crazy fast growth for MSS to WBS. It usually takes a while before I see any myc.

I'm only doing a handful of MSS jars now because of this, and probably won't be doing any MSS jars after these are done. It just takes too long, and I'm also starting to have agar cultures always available.

I'm going to have to do some good cleaning up of my Costa Rican as well. I became lazy and failed to keep a culture going for it, and took a print of my last CR shoebox which I will be working on cleaning up at some point. Should have really cloned and kept that culture alive because it produced well and was very potent, but life is busy lately.

MSS like MS syringe? Whenever i see super fast growth with ms now, i generally assume contams. Not always, but it seems alot more safe, agar or ms, when the growth is slow

Yes, MSS is a MS syringe and it is not contaminated if you looked at the rest of the post. They are nice and healthy from what I can see. There are a couple that are taking a little longer as MS genetics is a crap shoot and some strains may be colonizing a little slower. Other than this, they haven't stall and are all progressing nicely to date. Out of the 8 jars there are only 2 that are at 90% and 4 at 100% the remaining are borderline 100%. All should be fully colonized within a day or two tops! No signs of any contamination visually, but we shall see once they are spawned! I did the MSS inoculation while I am currently working on another variety on agar and will be transferring soon to new plates as well as doing some G2G with my two nicest jars for a future 66qt as the other 6 will be spawned to a 34qt for my first bulk.

I didnt say it was contaminated, i just said i wanted to ask you something. I'll send message

Cause i used to do MS all the time and back to back success and lately i use agar cause *I* keep getting contams with MS

Good job by the way  i always thought Z-strain was awesome also

Will be moving them to a cold room while I am out of town just in case we get a heat wave, figuring the cooler temps will keep them safe!

I only get slow growth with MS via MSS (syringe) to jars... agar with MS from print or syringe is fast

I've spawned jars after almost a month at full colonization. I don't recommend it, but a week should be fine. If you're worried about it, you could always shake them up right before you leave to delay them a bit

You're funny pixelpopper mentioning to shake them as I did this about 20min. ago (Great minds think a like!) for two main reasons. 1) To slow things down and 2) To see if they will show if there is any possible contamination. If they recover nicely over the next 24-48hrs then I will feel more confident that I have clean spawn and shouldn't have an issue once I spawn them and this way they will be good once I get back as they should be back at 100% by the time I get back. They all broke up very nicely and had no problems shaking and the grains look just as good as they did after the first shake.

How is shaking going to delay anything? And what's it delaying?

Just leave the jars alone mang. Its just a week. You are creating solutions to a non existent problem.

What's done is done! We shall see how they bounce back. Figured if there is an issue with recovery, then there is an issue with the spawn not being clean. And seeing as I have an extra week, I don't see how an extra shake will do any harm from everything I have read. We shall see! But thanks for your concern mushboy

why do you(or anyone) think a jar sitting for a week is a bad thing once and awhile? it gets posted a lot. not just you sorry for singling out.

im just generally curious. lots of people will post 'going out of time and cant spawn the jars!!!'
like they think when they come back they will have dead myc??? or mold??? i dunno. its confusing why people are confused.

I didn't think it was a bad thing tbh. I was going to leave them, as everyone said they should be fine, but my reason for shaking again was mainly because I had an extra week before spawning and figured if it recovers properly then I have less worries of hidden contamination, which is my main concern seeing as these are from a MSS inoculation.

im not talking about the shaking. im talking about this thought process.

I don't think this personally but I imagine that people who aren't familiar with biology in general might worry that the mushrooms will "go hungry" or something if they are left in a fully colonized jar.

Most people don't realize that the shrooms eat the stuff they colonize well after they have colonized it.

The other possibility is that many newbies have this idea that if they sit too long they try to fruit and thus waste energy on that process that they could have used to colonize the bulk sub or whatever if it was spawned...

ive only been around since 2016 but i dont know. its usually from misinformed assumptions though.

i used to think they would pin and the shrooms would rot. but i was ... :noob:

Jars that sit too long will start to pin in the jar.. not after a week, but it does happen. I'd rather not spawn a jar that is trying to fruit :justdontknow:

If it was cakes I wouldn't worry but seeing as it is my first time doing grains I was worried about them pinning in the jar before spawning and am not sure how this would affect the process. Cakes are easy in that there isn't an issue as you can still do a dunk and roll with pins, or just pluck them and move forward. Not sure what the process is with grains or is this is an issue. Just a noob thing (learning curve) probably. Once I have done this with grains a few times I am sure I will be more comfortable with things like this.
