MSS Z-Strain WBS growlog - Updated
    #25246628 -

This project first started out with 100% corn free WBS found at Wally World, but then I came across some wild finch bird seed and it looked a lot more sexy then the stuff with all the sunflower seeds and peanuts! I prepared a MSS of some Costa Rican I had, but I wasn't happy with the syringe I made (not being able to see any spores), so I made another with one of my go to strains.
So I took this

And prepared it using hamloafs WBS tek,
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24952939#24952939
and then did this with the 8 pint jars for 90+min

I had to do two runs as can only fit 4 pint jars in the tiny 6qt PC I managed to get. Once they were all done...

I let them sit for 24+hrs before finally inoculating them with less than 1CC of the MSS Z-Strain...

Let the waiting game begin, and pray that my first MSS to grain is a success! Only time will tell!!! Count down starts today :jah:
Progress reports to follow

First signs of mycelium! All 8 jars showing signs of growth! I am so stoked, as this is my first attempt at grains. The growth is minimal, but for only 3 and a half days after inoculation... I am one happy person! No signs of contamination to date and once again, this Z-Strain is showing me why it is one of my favorites to work with. If it performs anything like it did in BRF jars, these should colonize quite fast!

Progressing nicely! :mushroom2:

And still showing no signs of any contamination. Feeling pretty good about my first MSS to grain!

Went away for a couple of days, came back to check and was pleasantly surprised to find more progress

Going to watch another 2 days before I contemplate whether or not I will be shaking then or waiting a little longer to ensure they are all over 30% regardless if others have further progression. Growing nice so far IMO; what do you all think?

I wasn't sure as the other side of most of the jars have little or no growth yet so I was thinking another 2 days max would ensure a faster recovery and more solid rebound. What do you think Torm?

Thought I would give it a try while I am playing with agar and see how it would turn out. I heard a lot of people say it is shit but noticed most had issues with moisture so used about a half cc roughly when inoculating with MSS. For not even a week I don't know why I waited so long to try grains! In BRF I wouldn't see anything till about 7-10days. 6 days was the fastest using this strain. 3 days in grain is even faster! Very happy I decided to start this grow instead of waiting on agar as this will give me time to clean up the Costa Rican I am currently working on in agar.
Thanks pixelpopper

I will say that you are seeing some crazy fast growth for MSS to WBS. It usually takes a while before I see any myc.

I'm only doing a handful of MSS jars now because of this, and probably won't be doing any MSS jars after these are done. It just takes too long, and I'm also starting to have agar cultures always available.

I'm going to have to do some good cleaning up of my Costa Rican as well. I became lazy and failed to keep a culture going for it, and took a print of my last CR shoebox which I will be working on cleaning up at some point. Should have really cloned and kept that culture alive because it produced well and was very potent, but life is busy lately.

This Z-Strain I have is crazy fast and has a nice potency as well. I have used two different prints and have had the same results with both of my BRF grows I did, and now this one is reacting the same way so can't wait to see how it will rebound after the shake as well as once it finally gets spawned!

Made agar with the last Costa Rican print that I have and there are two jars growing very nice mycelium! Going to transfer half on to new plates soon and inoculated some WBS with the other half to see what happens as I work with the new plates. Hopefully start some cloning at the same time as I continue transfers to try and isolate further.

Woke up this morning and decided to give them a good shake! They all broke up nicely and hoping they distributed through out the jar as evenly as possible  Back to the waiting game and praying they recover as fast as they germinated! :jah:

Thanks and yes, out of the 3 strains I have the Z is by far the fastest and most agressive! :headbang3:

I have never done a trade, and am a little apprehensive about it, yet if there is something interesting you have that could convince me otherwise... Maybe we can work something out! Here is a pic of a pint jar test I did with the tail end of a syringe I had

Agar is in the work atm. Need to make up some more plates soon to start transfers. Just waiting as long as possible to start this one first so I can make up some more WBS jars so I can noc up some with half of the agar that I will be transferring. This way I can have another batch while cleaning and isolating the GT and Costa Rican I have growing. Having fun and loving this hobby! :thanx: and thanks for asking Mushboy

Maybe after I revive this 10 year old pan camb print and grow it out for some fresh prints, if you're interested in pans :naughty:
