the Terrerium sounded good. Now why are you going to inject spores into the casing, do you want to waste them? You inject the spores into the substrate and when that is fully colonized, then you sandwhich that between the casing materiel. At most I would leave the jars sit for three days and that is with tape on the holes. What substrate are you using? L

Right, I meant inject into substrate, sorry. I'll use the recommended PF-Tek perlite/vermiculite and organic brown grain rice. Not the heavy fruiting combo but the regular one with less water. "You inject the spores into the substrate and when that is fully colonized, then you sandwhich that between the casing materiel." I think I'm getting a little confused regarding the casing material. I'm under the impression that once the in-jar-spore injected mixture has been 100% colonized by the little white thingys, then you birth them into the aquarium by flipping the jar and placing them on sterilized lids which sit on top of the chicken wire. Does the chicken wire need to be sterilized/treated? I've read that several people just set the cakes on a layer of perlite. Is this advantageous over the wire mesh? Or can it lead to undesirable fungus/bacteria in the aquarium? Sorry for all the Q's but I'm eager to have my technique critiqued to lessen my mistakes, thanks a lot.

Hi Poppy_growing_fool,Perlite is one way to go once your cakes have been 'birthdayed'. From what I've read the cakes are best sat on something that keeps them off the perlite (e.g a jar lid) until after the first flush, then you can sit them on the perlite to get some more moisture into them to encourage further flushes. All the info you need is here in the Shroomery's grow/find section. Cos I'm not yet speaking from personal experience. My first attempt at growing just crashed But if at first you don't succeed......

yeah i'd definitely recommend the perlite technique. Its very easy! Definitely use the caps of the jars to seperate the cakes from the perlite though, just to prevent any type of contaminates. Just make sure there is a thin layer of water at the bottom and that the perlite is moist and your good. Don't do the chicken wire thing, too annoying and retarded. Good luck man, you're gonna have fun doing this, just remember one word: STERILIZE!! and think about it the whole time you are doing it.------------------ "He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man." -Dr. Johnson "I should play God and just shoot you myself." -Tool happy shrooming!

Gotcha guys, thanks for the info. As far as keeping it sterile, I've bought some of those doctor type face masks to use during each part of the procedure because most bacteria probably come off out bodies. I'm also going to wear a white shirt and pants washed in a heavy bleach wash (not heavy enough to make 'em fall apart), and put baggies over my shoes. HAHAHA, I should video tape it all and watch it when I get to sample my fungi, that would make a good laugh. *all posts theoretical, i don't condone illegal activities in any way, shape, or form SO STAY AWAY FROM ME DEA-HOLES
