How fast/thick should Lion's mane mycelium grow?

I got a liquid culture of Lion's Mane from an ebay seller and it grows on agar plates very fast.  I keep reading that Lion's Mane mycelium is thin and hard to see and that they often pin before fully colonizing but whatever I got grows thick mycelium right away.

Do you think I got some other culture (like an oyster) or can the Lion's Mane grow that fast?

Most of these plates are just under 2 weeks old and have mycelium growing up the sides already.  The older one even has growth on the top.  The growth was never thin and wispy and older agar cultures don't get spores or change color so I don't think it is mold.

My plates are only 47mm diameter but these just seem to be growing faster and thicker than I expected which makes me question if they are really Lion's Mane.

I am by no means an expert at all as I have never even grown lions mane, BUT it is possible maybe that somebody isolated an aggressive genetics of the lions mane and turned it into an LC. If that's the case then that's just great. Still though, no expert here (yet).

That's what I was afraid of.  I've seen oysters grow that fast and thick but didn't expect that full of growth without pins from the Lion's Mane.  I have a Bear Tooth culture that hardly produces any mycelium at all before making pins but never had a Lion's Mane before.  I have another culture coming from a different ebay seller but haven't had a lot of luck with ebay and mushroom cultures.  Most seem to be contaminated.

This particular liquid culture was clean and only grew whatever this is so I hope to fruit it and see what it turns out to be.

doesn't seem like hericium to me.
ours is usually barely visible on the plate, except for some white hotspots.
they very easily form primordia on plates.

So. I have some plates that I transferred that don't look like they are doing anything. is it because they are almost clear while colonizing?

yea, you could compare it to moonscape. they'll form very thin mycelium with "craters" where there doesn't seem to be any mycelium. but it's there. if you leave it for long it'll become thicker though.

This is what I was expecting it to do.



This one is Bear Head and was 19 days old at the time the picture was taken.  The pins grew directly out of the wedge I started with and produced basically no mycelium at all.

That's why I questioned the supposed Lion's Mane when it produced fast growing mycelium with no pinning.

I've never seen it grow like that.
on my plates it colonizes the entire plate and then it forms the primordia...

Keep in mind LC colonizes faster than spores.
