Reducing meat intake cuts disease vulnerability in half
    #24461937 -

This is a good vid
I don't condone cutting fat out of your diet though because it's needed to absorb nutrients
and the first part that compares eggs to tobbacco is dumb, I've done irreversable damage with tobbacco in a matter of months.

But the rest makes a lot of sense, there is so much shit going on with meat that unless you slaughter the animal yourself you're just setting yourself up to get sick later on.

I think it would vary person to person but honestly I can see a meat free diet being much healthier IF done right.

The key would be eating a large variety of healthy alternatives to get all the stuff you might be missing out on.

Balance is best with most things though IMO so a bit of meat is probably good for most people. It also depends on the kind of meat and how it's cooked though.

I have been slowly trying to eat more greens and less meat and I feel a lot better. Looking back on my stoner youth days bingeing wings and other nasty stuff makes me want to vomit. Cheap meat literally makes me feel like shit, I would rather not eat at all then eat some of the cheap crap I used to eat. Fastfood meat is especially gnarly

There are tons of great meat alternatives too. Lately I have been enjoying veggie burgers again, 2 great kinds are made with mushrooms/ cheese and beans/corn/peppers.

Just made BBQ tofu with beans corn and kale last night, was super tasty and filling and pretty healthy. Not to mention way cheaper then even decent meat.

Islands are typically surrounded by water.

On topic, I was actually thinking about becoming vegetarian. I use to make fun of people who were but recently it just feels right for my own reasons.

At the very least I want to cut my meat consumption by 60-70%.

Yeah, I went full veggie for a few years. Now eat meat about 10 times per year. Never a big amount. But there is a lot of dishes, like burgers, I've become completely accustomed to the veggie variant, that I honestly enjoy them more than their original meat counterpart.
My patties are based on oats and TVP, you can add any ingredient and seasoning as it is pretty bland by itself.
Reduction of meat intake led to an increased sense of well-being, but so did starting to eat meat again after abstaining. I think there might be something in it that is really beneficial, in moderation.

:greenthumb:

It also really depends on the meat itself, quality aside some like fish are much healthier then say pork.

Personally lamb is one of my all-time favorite foods, but I try and only eat it on occasion.

Others like fish you could eat daily and it would be very healthy, though with ocean pollutants these days it can be questionable. But as with all meats you just have to try and be cautious of the source.

But I totally agree, a well made veggie burger is just as good if not better then the real deal.

If a black bean burger is cooked properly I'd take it over a beef burger.

Fish and seafood are amazing, but unfortunately quite expensive in my area. As you point out, eating lots of tuna or similar might be bad due to bioaccumulation of mercury in apex predators. Tuna has been banned in lots of canteens here (I'm from Europe btw). Over the past few years organic supermarkets have been exploding everywhere and lots of people have gone veggie, the topic has been getting more and more attention, but it's still only a small fraction of the population. I live in one of the bigger cities and hipster culture is just as prevalent and is centered around burgers and pulled pork. They copy you Americans. Funny to watch.
