Francis Crick: Life was not started by accident. * 3
    #24125068 -

Francis Crick (whom died in 2004),  British molecular biologist, biophysicist, neuroscientist, Nobel Prize winner, and most notably a co-discoverer of the structure of the DNA molecule in 1953 with James Watson, said that "the odds of life being created by accident is about as likely as a fully functioning jumbo jet being put together by accident from a hurricane in a boneyard".

It's not like this is some random crackpot. The dude is/was one of the most accomplished men to ever do it in his field. I mean the guy helped co-discover the structure of the damn DNA molecule for fuck's sake.

What do y'all think of that quote up above?

I feel like there was/is a creator.. how can you get conciousness from not concious matter? Or how existence began?? Or didd it even have a beginning? just nothing a human can even fathom though who knows... we want to understand everything like a book ( beginnin to end) and everywhere in between some things may just not be meant to know ?

But when it comes down to it no one really knows  or do we? :mindblown:

Nonetheless Francis crick was a badass

I believe in evolution, starting from consciousness with matter taking form as needed to fit in a consensus reality

Vedantism 101, but it explains the vast number of coincidences and barelies

I totally agree; religion is absolute bullshit but there has to be a Creator. Religion attributes a very small mind to the being that created life, the universe and everything. We can't possibly comprehend the mind that made us. This is the third time I've used this Terence quote here in the last week or so, but I'll use it again anyway: "the universe is not only stranger than we suppose, it's stranger than we can suppose."

the creator, if there is one, is in an inviolable station, either within, or connected to, a source of ineffable noematic substance.

Both Francis Crick and James Watson were staunch athiests who supported evolution. The quote you ascribe to Francis Crick is actually a quote by Fred Hoyle.

I will say this, given the unfathomable size of the universe, rare events such as the "spontaneous assembly of a jumbo jet" are fairly common.

I truly believe that human beings were test subjects all along history, and our DNA was played with and altered many times by an evolved creatues.

It's a fact that almost all people who are 'abducted by aliens' had their parents and grandparents being abducted before them.
maybe the experiments are ongoing even today, and the smarter beings are still testing people that connects with their ancestors from  primal eras, which were also subjects of experiment.

maybe, maybe not.

Yeah. Its unlikely but in such a large and old universe some very unlikely things will eventually happen.

Yeah I thought I had heard that quote somewhere else. I guess it's pretty easy for someone to slap together an image macro or something, put it on social media, and make a bunch of people believe that a given quote was originated by someone completely different.

That said, it does seem like there are still quite a lot of unanswered questions about the exact details of the origin of life.
