playing video games is fine and good in moderation, just like anything else that brings pleasure.  studies have shown that guys who play games 3 or more hours a day have lower emotional intelligence, poor emotional control, and have a harder time dealing with problems in life.

but I think that can be said about anyone who struggles with an addictive personality.  Whatever a person enjoys can serve as a kind of escape for those who haven't learned healthy coping mechanisms.  All through my youth I was anti-drug and alcohol.  it wasnt until I got involved with a man who started having an affair with me that I began to dabble and experiement with anything that offered relief and allowed me to forget how much I loved him.

i dont think anyone on earth hated drugs and booze more than me.  yet despite every ounce of conviction i had against drugs I couldnt find a way to cope. At that point I would have done anything in my power to get away from my own self.

I just wish someone would have told me this shit is a genetic malady.  If your family has issues with addiction you should NEVER EVER EVER try anything.  Otherwise life is going to be a struggle.  You'll fight against this for your entire life.  and life is challenging enough, there's no need for self-sabbotage or self-destruction.

So I'd say to all the young people out there that if you see yourself leaning toward unhealthy behaviors, do yourself a favor and pull the plug on that shit right now.  It doesnt matter if its eating, shopping, fucking, drugging, gambling, video games, whatever.. detach yourself from it.

Haha compound addiction with other disorders like ADHD or OCD and you have a real problem on your hands.  BUT if you can find something good, that is beneficial to focus that energy on you can really use that to your advantage. You just need to seek something you're passionate about and have interest in.  ADHD could be your best fucking asset instead of disability.

It's all about the spin.

sorry. word castle.

yeah I mean I'm ok with it but to be honest i preferred the wii mote because it made FPS games a lot more fun and responsive, yes I was ticked at the wii u for being cut short a year or so early but the switch is completely new tech..

it's just not going to hit 1080p 60 frames outside of first party titles, which is why I'm mad if they waited another year they definitely could have hit that mark

so i guess you can say it's everything i didn't want but it's the only home console with a nvidia gpu inside that uses cartridges...
thats freaking crazy to me we went like 17 years without cartridges now loading times are going to be gone again
I'm hype enough to get it eventually haha

I think that may be a correlation not causation thing. Alot of gaming addicts have poor social skills and it often develops into other issues over time. Not necessarily because of the game time but where others get thrust into social situations and learn confidence and w/e they need, they stay and prefer to stay with the game. Where other people learn to deal with life they do not. It is no different than any other form of self isolation. Drugs included.

The real difference is where alot of other problems are more likely to manifest in adulthood, gaming starts in childhood and it shapes their life from then on out.

I honestly wish I could have taught my aunt this. She raised my cousin in a bubble. Gave him video gams and tv but no outside time. Made him terrified of bugs. Let the doctor put him on a shitload of adderal. I wasn't surprised he ended up developing tons of allergies and skin conditions. They also gave him growth hormones because his growth got stunted. He's gonna be 14 next year and I expect he will begin to realize how far behind he is in alot of these life things. And he will be depressed. But I hope he can grow from it.

Thankfully in the last 2-3 years my aunt realized how ridiculous doctors are and has changed alot in his life. But he's still gaming more often than not.

Grew up in a village of 100 people, and gaming used to be a really social activity for the around 10 of us in my age group.
When the weather was poor, and for large portions of the winter when it was bitterly cold, we would get together and game.

Then around the age of 14, got mixed up in a horribly convoluted situation where I was kicked out of school for a year because people from the next town over (we all bussed in to the city for school) started a rumor that I was going to shoot up the school (had no such plans).
Aside from being sent 2 hours on the highway to go see a psychiatrist who ultimately asked my mother why I was brought in because I did not need to be there, also ended up in pretty heavy social isolation from that point onward.

If I went out around town, 90% of the people I used to hang out with would freak out, so I started spending all my time indoors gaming or hanging out on message boards.
Annnnnnd from that point forward, spent most of my time at home -- moved to a new city and a new school to finish out high school, but people caught wind of what happened previously and I was pretty quickly outcast.

So my gaming addiction was both in response to social issues growing up, but also exacerbated a number of the social issues into my adult years due to a slowly formulated general misanthropic view of people.

Arguably my internet addiction has been worse than my gaming addiction though -- spent a good 7+ years of my adult life not gaming during/after University, but have never managed to peel myself away from socializing in forums rather than in person.
Not that it is easy for me to get anywhere from where I live at the moment though.

But to get back on topic of the Switch, am looking quite forward to it.
By no means expect Dark Souls 3 or Skyrim SE to perform as well as they do on my desktop, but the portable nature means playing some of my favourites on commute to doctors appointments and the like.

And, of course, looking forward to the new Zelda -- but also to the rumors that, apparently, Nintendo will finally be bringing a main-line Pokémon title to consoles.

they don't cater to the same market, the xbox and ps3 used to be like 400-600 dollars lol
also they don't charge online and their systems are backwards compatible

also being technically inferior doesn't equal worse
the sony and microsoft systems barely hit sixty frames ever up until what 2016

all video game companies are out to make money
no one is forcing you to buy it
the switch will hit 1080p 30frames though without a doubt in third party games
nvidia's latest tech is extremely powerful
