Getting started in music production
    #2389263 -

I want to start making more music. I play drums as is, but i want the freedom to be able to make music alone and have complete control.

I have a few questions:

1. Is there any specific requirements for a computer to excel at music production? Ex. hardware, software, hook ups, whatever.

2. Where is a good place to start learning about music production?

There's a ton of great software out there that isn't CPU intensive.

Fruity Loops is a great tool- mainly a sampler, it provides support for VST's (software instruments) and midi.
Cubase is pro, and nice.
others are Reason, Acid, Jeskola Buzz...
great VST's are Absynth, Wasp, z3ta, Pro-53, Waldorf Attack, Amplitube, Spektral Delay, Halion, SampleTank...

You don't need a whole lot of computer speed, but it always helps (VST's really add up quick).

To start learning about music production, just experiment--try using different audio sources, tweak with the knobs, mess with effects.
Also, a few great sites with helpful forums are:

www.zebox.com (hosting)
www.macaudiolab.com
and this one. any more specific questions?

A good soundcard.
A decent amount of RAM (Memory)
A midi keyboard is a good idea, but not essential.
