They nlook like Panaeolus castaneifolius or possibly P. olivacaeus

thanks man! i have been waiting for that! rock on Zerohero! I will get some prints once these come up again...i promise. I love that this post just came back up and someone responded. I know something great can come from this and I am very excited for spring!

can Panaeolus castaneifolius or P. olivacaeus grow in ohio. They were also in wood chips and someone told me that straw was on top of them earlier in the season. Are these types potent? I will have to do some research on them.

If they were on wood chips, could be Ps. caerulipes, which are known from Great Lakes region...?

They are not P. caerulipes, I and a few others have posted images here over the years. P. caerulipes are in the Shroomery's Ultimate Shroom Guide.

And Panaeolus subbalteatus grows in top soil which has woodchips laid over the top soil here in the PNW so I can see composted straw-hay mix or fertile soil with spores for P. subbalteatus where you are also.

In fact the picture at my site under Panaeolus subbalteatus is in woodchips in the U district here in Seattle. Taken about six years ago. They are up right now in Washington and Oregon, especially since we now have some rain.
