SouthEast Ohio; appalachian region weather has been really sunny and warm. 3 days ago it stormed hard and today it rained hard for 15 min and then got sunny and dry. they were under a tree that had a dirt/mulch area. what could they be??

Nothing of use...
Give us a spore print color to help us ID them further.

yeah that's what got me excited! most of them have similar stalks that don't show up in the pics. also, there are brown rings around the edges. the second picture's cap appears uniformly light, but that is just because the shot was exposed a bit too much. it actually has a brown tip.

pan subbs, the stipe should bend right around your finger without breaking.. I think pan foens are the same.. Sounds to me like you may have some type of psathyrella. The 3rd and 4th pictures seem to show them growing together, or in a grouping.. I may be wrong but pan subbs normally fruit single...someone please correct me if I'm wrong..
I vote pan foens or psath foenisecii, which ever name you prefer they are both commonly referred to as the lawn mowers mushroom...
Without a spore print there can be no definative answer.. get one.. and get back,,, to let everyone know... happy hunting,,, nofindum.....

If you snap on a stem of a Panaeolus subbalteatus the stem will split into several long and half long pieces and breakup.
A Panaeolina foenisecii will wrapp around the finger before bereaking if at all it breaks.
