deformed oyster mushrooms **Updated with pics**
    #6543699 -

I got the "espresso oyster mushroom" kit from fungi perfecti for Christmas. Right now the fruits are starting to grow, but they are deformed.

It was described in the little booklet that came with the kit as "octopus" mushrooms, caused by lack of light and fresh air.

The mushrooms so far are about 1.5 inches long and have little to no cap, and clublike formations.

They get ambient light from the room, but I had kept the moisture tent on for the first 3-4 weeks. I have oopened the moisture tent, now..

Should I remove the deformed mushrooms or let them be (the oldest fruits are about 1 week old)

Thanks DD

That club look of a fat stem without hardly any cap is mostly from lack of fresh air. If you get a 'coral' look, it's from lack of light. Sometimes you get both in combination. Oysters can grow in lower humidity, so when I fruit them in a small tub, I leave the lid off the tub from the time they pin. You can mist to make up the difference. I'm sure they'll grow fine without the humidity tent as long as you mist daily. Run a humidifier in the room they're in if necessary.

Well here are some pics of what's growing:

Will allowing these to continue growing prevent normal fruits from forming?
Should I remove them?

You can leave them there as a test of your conditions. As you get more air and light to the project, they'll develop small caps. At that point you'll know you have it right. Oysters need a LOT of light. Much more than cubes. They're also extremely intolerant of high CO2 concentrations.

This thread is nine years old, why are you reviving it?
That's not cubensis either, or maybe it is but it has some horrible contamination if so.

If it was cubensis this is the incorrect forum to post it in anyway.

It's also frowned upon to threadjack with your own topic rather than making your own thread.
