FireFox
    #2348637 -

You should use FireFox 0.8 If you use linux, windows, or mac. It is available for all of them

It is faster than I.E. and follows html standards, correctly. It properly supports png transparencies.. (Something microsoft has had years to fix, but hasn't.) Various things that do not work in IE are flawless in FireFox. The download manager is a million times better than the download system IE seems intent on sticking with. FireFox is open source, and free. It doesn't wish to instate a monopoly, it just wants to deliver fast, free, standards compliant browsing.

It allows tabbed browsing.. and for those of you who don't know what that is, you will love it. It lets you have multiple pages open, without cluttering your system bar.. several IE windows clogging you down? FireFox is the answer!

The bookmarks managment is breath of fresh air.. It allows management of huge bookmark archives with ease, something I never imagined doing with internet explorer.

Plus.. it's customizable to the hilt, something IE is not.

So.. if you're interested in something good and new.. Give firefox a look. Even though its still beta(stable beta), I garantee after using it for a week you won't want to touch IE ever again  :alert:

Everything about Firefox is made to be as little of an asspain as possible.. it might seem hard to believe, but.. the whole experience of using it is pleasant.

Yeah but I don't trust anything that's even remotely related to Mozilla, because that was fucking awful.

As I understand it mozilla = netscape.. so, yea. Mozilla sucks ass.

xochitl's firefox tip #43:

speed yer shit up even more - type "about:config" (w/o quotation marks) in the address bar and change the following: (dbl click on each entry => new value). If the preference does not exist, just manually add it to the list.

Well, Mozilla and Netscape diverged a number of years ago. AOL bought out Netscape, and in true AOL fashion, proceeded to screw it up royally. Mozilla now consists of a lot of people who left when AOL took over Netscape.
Having said that, I highly recommend both Firebird and FireFox!

What I want a browser to do is to stay the fuck out of my way as much as possible, and definitely not take time loading etc etc.

I will give it a try though.

FireFox is very good. Excellent popup blocker, still buggy though. That's why a complete 1.0 version is not compiled yet though, but definately superior to IE and Netscape.

.. and daba, I wouldn't say its any more buggy than IE 6.0 is :P

I still have FireBird, v.0.7.
It is much better than IE - larger viewing area, popups blocked by default (you can get extra software to block popups in IE), complies to w3c standards for .css and a couple other things, and there are plenty of open source extensions (I use one for Opera-like mouse gestures), doesn't suffer from Microsoft security issues, the entire download is smaller than IEs most recent service pack.
It is still beta, but I haven't had any problems at all. Doesn't mean you won't.

To see the strength of .css, and one of the weaknesses of IE, visit http://www.csszengarden.com/

Things IE has going for it: it preloads on Windows, making it faster on startup (FireBird/FireFox loads quickly enough to make this difference irrelevant on my 4 year old pc), and some sites that are only tested with IE will only work on IE, because it doesn't follow standards.

Now that they have 90% of the browser market, Microsoft isn't putting much into IE development, focusing their energy on Longhorn, the new Windows OS due to come out in 2006.

I've only got 0.7, since I'm lazy this week, and am waiting for a few more bug reports on 0.8 before I switch. But Firebird/Firefox does rock -- Mozilla started down the right path with the split, and this is taking the best of Mozilla and kicking it up.

Trying the mods by xochitl now -- that'd rock!

I've tried Mozilla and didn't care for it. But I'm trying out FireFox and like it so far. Yes, I, too, like the tabbed windows.

Thanks for the link, Jared.
