Well, don't worry, IE will steal all the good ideas in FF for the next version and we'll all be stuck with the bloated IE once again.

That's one thing I do like about FF, it's fast and has a small memory footprint.

And yes, firefox is definitely good. If your pop up blocker doesn't work then it could be some popups from flash ads. Lots of sites have them now, and almost no browsers have anything that blocks those types of adds because they use a stupid flash script. It sucks that people have found ways to circumvent even the most sophisicated pop up blockers...

Yeah, I've noticed that there are a few websites which have worked their way around Firefox's pop-up blocking. Fortunately, there is always the possibility of people working on extensions to fix the problem, so who knows.

Honestly, the only reason I could see for using I.E. is that there are certain formatting coding that only I.E. can interpurt correctly because Microsoft fucked up the HTML standards for everyone else. I hate Microsoft as it is, but they seriously ruined standardizing of HTML coding for everyone by placing these "features" for publisher & I.E. which are not accepted by whomever it is who comes up with the HTML standards.

I have found that I.E. crashes more on my system, but I'm sure that depends on the individual. I.E. is way slower, no comparison there. I.E. lacks tabs, extentions, themes, naturally built-in pop-up blocking, and even has the single most annoying "feature" on this planet - allowing website developers the ability to bring their website to the front once it loads, which makes using I.E. like reading a book only to have another book sitting on your shelf to jump in your hands.

I don't want to try and debate I.E. vs. Firefox because it's all subjective opinion, but whenever I use a I.E. only computer, I feel as though the whole internet experience is ruined by the number of annoying things I.E. does. Doing the most simple task is a chore with I.E.

The very nature of experience is ineffable; it transcends cognitive thought and intellectualized analysis. To be without experience is to be without an emotional knowledge of what the experience translates into. The desire for the understanding of what life is made of is the motivation that drives us all. Without it, in fear of the experiences what life can hold is among the greatest contradictions; to live in fear of death while not being alive.

You're on crazy motherfucker. The only reason pop-ups are starting to show up in Firefox is because Firefox is so widely used. You're never going to be able to stop 100% of all things. The bigger the userbase the bigger the virus/spam base.

Firefox is a much nicer world than IE. IE is crap and it's time to go =/ I don't have a clue what problems you are talking about with Firefox but maybe it's user error or bad maintenance?

popup blocker works just fine for me.
adblock is great - I never see adverts anymore.

I havent had any trouble with visiting websites
except for the rare, rare site that does not work
due to poor design and lack of adherence to WC3 standards.

I recommend uninstalling and deleting your profile (most important)
and then reinstalling - I bet your firefox is just corrupted.

That craze about Firefox was fucking stupid. I told everyone from the start it was shit, and it is. People just get so wrapped up in dumb little fads... it's ridiculous.

firefox is anything but a "fad"
it blows IE out of the water in performance, safety, and the ability to customize - the mozilla foundation will continue to develop the browser in a timely manner and I doubt it will ever be some passing fad.

My firefox is perfectly fine.
Its infinitely better than IE, and plus it allows me to tab like a half dozen pages in one window...
Which totally saves the day on task bar clutter.

i dont understand what you are all talking about, its probably differences in our computers. Firefox has worked wonders for me. Spyware/viruses/some crazy shit really messed my internet explorer up, my homepage would always switch itself, and at times i would literally get hundreds of popups. Firefox is perfect, not a single problem

for those who do not prefer firefox, why use IE? Why not use opera? www.opera.com

that is a quality broswer.

Is there a safe way to do this and keep all your settings?

I've also wondered, when updating FireFox, is there a danger in installing FireFox over itself? Should older versions be uninstalled first?

Your firefox is seriously fucked the hell up. lol. Uninstall the whole program, delete the core files, cold boot after running a spyware scan and I'll put down money that things will be back in order. Unless you have some sort of virus issue or severe system issue, or have done something like a system restore going back from windows xp sp2 to the first version (Or you're on windows me or something).

For a moment I thought Diploid was saying that firefox had a memory problem. I was about to die until I reread things. Any other browser but ie usually handles things fine. At work, I'll have around 10 windows open, with some taking up as much as 40mb!?!? What the fuck is with that. Atleast in windows nt they tied the browser down to the operating system in hopes to utilize things, unlike in 9x and especially me where they just fucked things up for no reason.

WC3 standards and html are just that. Bull. Rendering pages to look fine in "internet explorer" primarily is a thing of the past. Markup languages and the like are taking care of things like that. A page can be coded in xml so incredibly easily that you damn near have to try fucking things up. It's like violence, if it doesn't work then just use more. Heh, a bad joke but honestly. Something's seriously wrong with your system because internet explorer, on it's very best day of the year can hardly contend with any other browser when it comes to end user functionality. And it certainly has the plus side of being the most dominant for all these years, not to mention the most vulnerable. So there's many variables, but ie's really not better than firefox in almost any way. Browsers like opera are also pretty rockin.

I'm looking forward to internet explorer 7 to make or break things. I'm certainly hoping it's not to tight to the friggen os, or bloated to compete with everything else. Microsoft is buying out every company, trying to top other email providers, search engines, dial up internet service, antivirus, now malicious code removal, lol. But I work for them, and they've offered jobs to me and my friends before so it's cool. :hippie:

No. Deleting one's profile will remove everything. I recommend backing up your bookmarks. Other than that, nothing will be saved. That is the point of deleting one's profile and starting over.

Sometimes it is fine, sometimes it is not. I recommend a clean profile/new installation for each new version. I have installed ontop of older installations before - sometimes things were fine, others I had weird problems.

I'd say that a vast majority of the people who have problems with firefox have such problems due to a corrupted profile/installation. User error.

I can get my firefox back exactly how I had it within 30 mins - I am very specific how I like things. my firefox is very customized.

The worst part about Firefox is that it waits until an entire web page is downloaded until it displays it. Well, that's fine as long as I can do other things while it's loading, but the entire fucking program freezes every time it's loading a site! A couple sites I visit use a lot of javascript and it takes almost a whole minute to load these up even on my DSL connection. And the worst part is the browser just FREEZES while it's loading up these pages, so I can't even look at the other tabs or do anything else in the meantime. What a piece of shit. And after all that, I still consider it much better than IE and slightly better than Opera.

My firefox does not do this.

unlike IE, such settings can be easily modified.

you can speed rendering up if you prefer.
